Higher throughput thermodynamic measurements can provide value in structure-based drug discovery during fragment screening, hit validation, and lead optimization Enthalpy can be used to detect and characterize ligand binding, and changes that affect the interaction of protein and ligand can sometimes be detected more readily from changes in the enthalpy of binding than from the corresponding free-energy changes or from protein-ligand structures Newer higher throughput calorimeters are being incorporated into the drug discovery process Improvements in titration calorimeters come from extensions of a mature technology and face limitations in scaling Conversely, array calorimetry, an emerging technology, shows promise for substantial improvements in throughput and material utilization but improved sensitivity is needed

Marco Antonio Peixoto, Renan Garcia Malikouski, Emanuel Ferrari do Nascimento, Andreia Schuster, Francisco Jose Correia Farias, Luiz Paulo Carvalho, Paulo Eduardo Teodoro, Leonardo Lopes Bhering

Summary: Understanding genetic diversity and genotype-by-environment interaction are crucial in breeding programs for improving desirable traits in cotton genotypes. This study estimated genetic diversity and applied GGE biplot analyses to identify the best genotypes for adaptability and stability. The results showed that the genotypes IMACV 690 and IMA08 WS had high adaptability and stability for the main traits in cotton crops.

Jose Francisco De Oliveira-Junior, Munawar Shah, Ayesha Abbas, Washington Luiz Felix Correia Filho, Carlos Antonio da Silva Junior, Dimas de Barros Santiago, Paulo Eduardo Teodoro, David Mendes, Amaury de Souza, Elinor Aviv-Sharon, Vagner Reis Silveira, Luiz Claudio Gomes Pimentel, Elania Barros da Silva, Mohd Anul Haq, Ilyas Khan, Abdullah Mohamed, El-Awady Attia

Summary: Forest fires in Brazil's Northeast region have caused significant damage and long-term research on these fires is insufficient. This study analyzed satellite data from 1998 to 2018 to evaluate the spatiotemporal distribution of fires in the region and characterized the environmental degradation. The results showed a correlation between fire foci and changes in land use/land cover.

Peres, Carlos Antonio da Silva Junior

Summary: This article reveals that the fire issue in the Pantanal region is related to climatic factors rather than cattle population. Grazing cattle cannot solve the fire problem, and fires are aggravated by extreme weather events and outdated agricultural practices.

Nondestructive Technology for Real-Time Monitoring and Prediction of Soybean Quality Using Machine Learning for a Bulk Transport Simulation

Lanes Beatriz Acosta Jaques, Paulo Carteri Coradi, Everton Lutz, Paulo Eduardo Teodoro, Douglas Vinicius Jaeger, Angelico Loreto Teixeira

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the use of a nondestructive technology to predict the quality of soybean in different moisture contents, sampling positions, and shipping time. The monitoring of indirect quality measurement variables, combined with machine-learning models, satisfactorily predicted the physical quality of the grain mass over time. The moisture content and shipping time had the greatest influence on the quality of transported grains.

Tempering time and air temperature relationships for real-scale paddy drying and their effects on the physical, physicochemical, and morphological qualities of polished rice

Andressa Fernandes Leal, Paulo Carteri Coradi, Rosana dos Santos Moraes, Edson Mueller, Paulo Eduardo Teodoro, Larissa Pereira Ribeiro Teodoro, Dagila Melo Rodrigues

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of drying-tempering time and air temperature on the quality of polished rice. The results showed that the increase in temperature and prolonged drying-tempering time adversely affected the physical, physicochemical, and morphological qualities of the rice. It was concluded that drying technologies with tempering periods should be designed with a maximum temperature of 75 degrees Celsius and drying time not exceeding 8 hours for optimal rice quality.

Saline stress affects the growth of Saccharum complex genotypes

Welson Lima Simoes, Anderson Ramos de Oliveira, Flavio Dessaune Tardin, Cintia Patricia Martins de Oliveira, Lizz Kezzy de Morais, Larissa PereiraRibeiro Teodoro, Paulo Eduardo Teodoro

Summary: Soil salinity affects plant growth and hinders sugarcane cultivation. This study evaluated the growth-related traits of different Saccharum genotypes under saline and non-saline conditions. The presence of salinity resulted in higher values for plant height, leaf number, leaf area index, and stem diameter in certain genotypes. Among the genotypes tested, G1, G9, G11, G13, G22, G24, and G28 showed the most promise for developing new salt-tolerant sugarcane cultivars.

Fabio Henrique Rojo Baio, Danieli Alixame, Danilo Carvalho Neves, Larissa Pereira Ribeiro Teodoro, Carlos Antonio da Silva Junior, Luciano Shozo Shiratsuchi, Job Teixeira de Oliveira, Paulo Eduardo Teodoro

Summary: The definition of distance between sampling grid points directly affects the development of fertility maps. This study aimed to assess how adding +5% and +10% random points to the original sample grids would affect the development of soil fertility maps under Brazilian Cerrado conditions. The inclusion of additional sampling points was found to be effective in generating more accurate soil fertility maps.

Patricia Monique Crivelari-Costa, Mendelson Lima, Newton La Scala Jr, Fernando Saragosa Rossi, Joao Lucas Della-Silva, Ricardo Dalagnol, Paulo Eduardo Teodoro, Larissa Pereira Ribeiro Teodoro, Gabriel de Oliveira, Jose Francisco de Oliveira Junior, Carlos Antonio da Silva Junior

Summary: The Amazon region, with its largest tropical forest, plays a significant role in absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere. However, changes in land use and cover have led to increased greenhouse gas emissions, especially CO2, and threatened the indigenous lands and protected areas. This study used satellite images to detect changes in CO2 emissions and removals associated with land use and cover changes in the Brazilian Legal Amazon. The results showed the impact of land conversions on carbon absorption, especially in pasture and agriculture areas, which emitted more CO2 compared to the forest areas.
