Summary: The study aimed to assess the classification criteria for adult rheumatic diseases in adult patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) treated with biologics, and to evaluate the course of JIA in adulthood. Among 138 adult patients with JIA treated with biologics, 81 patients remained with JIA diagnosis and 57 patients were rediagnosed with other adult rheumatic diseases. Importance rating of this study: 8/10.

Summary: Studies have shown that the relationship between SNPs in proinflammatory cytokines genes and susceptibility to developing RA is inconclusive and varies among different ethnic populations. These polymorphisms also have an impact on clinicopathological features of RA and patients' response to treatment. Further research on larger cohorts and diverse populations is needed to elucidate the role of these SNPs in RA patients.

Summary: This article presents a national guideline for ophthalmologic care and surveillance of juvenile idiopathic arthritis-associated uveitis (JIA-uveitis), emphasizing the importance of screening according to risk factors, ocular inflammation, and therapy considerations. Topical glucocorticoids are recommended as first-line therapy, with methotrexate as the first-line systemic therapy and anti-TNF alpha as the second-line treatment for uncontrolled uveitis.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the clinical features and risk factors of uveitis in Korean children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). The JIA-associated uveitis (JIA-U) developed in 9.8% of JIA patients. The study found that the uveitis group had a higher prevalence of the oligoarthritis-persistent subtype and knee joint involvement, suggesting their association with JIA-U.

Summary: Early treatment and frequent screening are crucial for controlling JIA-associated uveitis, which poses a significant risk for serious complications. The identification of specific risk factors for JIA-associated uveitis is a key focus of research as our understanding of pathogenic drivers is still incomplete. Genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic factors have been identified as potential risk factors, and therapeutic strategies are being discussed.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi) and comedication, as well as methotrexate (MTX) monotherapy, in patients with adult juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The results showed that JIA patients had lower baseline disease activity compared to RA patients in different treatment groups. After baseline disease activity adjustment, there were no significant differences in disease activity change between JIA and RA patients for both treatment groups. TNFi and MTX monotherapy are both effective in adult JIA, with similar effectiveness to that shown in RA.

Summary: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common chronic inflammatory rheumatic condition of childhood, classified into seven categories. The pathogenesis of JIA involves autoimmune and autoinflammatory mechanisms, and the availability of new drugs has significantly improved treatment options.

Summary: Children with early onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis, especially with positive antinuclear antibodies, may develop chronic anterior uveitis, which requires regular slit lamp examination and prompt treatment. Therapy options range from local steroid treatment to systemic immunomodulatory therapy, tailored to individual patient needs, with involvement of expert ophthalmologists and pediatricians. Treatment should not be easily interrupted and may need to be intensified in certain cases for optimal disease control.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous tocilizumab in JIA patients with refractory uveitis. The results showed that SC-TCZ significantly reduced the rate of uveitis flare and achieved complete treatment response in some patients. Moreover, SC-TCZ was well-tolerated without any observed side effects.

Summary: Intravenous golimumab was effective, showed consistent pharmacokinetics, and was relatively safe in pediatric patients with polyarticular-course JIA. Treatment led to significant JIA ACR response rates at 28 and 52 weeks, with steady PK exposure maintained. However, the presence of antibodies in some patients and rare serious infections were noted as potential issues.

Summary: The joint destruction in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) can be diagnosed and treated earlier through the determination of circulating cartilage-matrix turnover markers, and the response to treatment is correlated with the levels of these markers. Understanding the changes in type II collagen metabolism may lead to new diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies for children with JIA.

Summary: The study shows that the binding of anti-TNF biologics to tmTNF can reduce the severity of arthritis by increasing the expression of anti-inflammatory markers and decreasing inflammation. This suggests a complementary explanation for the effects of anti-TNF biologics in treating inflammatory diseases and opens the door to studies on new arginase-1-dependent therapeutic targets.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors for the treatment of juvenile idiopathic arthritis associated uveitis (JIA-U) with 134 participants. The findings suggest that adalimumab appears to increase the likelihood of treatment success and decrease the likelihood of treatment failure when compared with placebo, while the evidence on etanercept is less conclusive. Further research is needed.

Summary: This study explores the shared gene signatures and potential molecular mechanisms of polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (pJIA) and autoimmune uveitis (AU) through data analysis and functional enrichment analysis. Neutrophil degranulation may be considered a shared pathogenic mechanism, and the roles of ARID1A gene and hsa-miR-146a are worthy of further study. Additionally, periodic inspection of kidney function is also important.
