Purpose of review To examine techniques that have been used to assess various aspects of body-image perception and body-image attitudes in obesity. It summarizes findings from previous review articles and reports on new research findings that have been published between August 2007 and August 2010. Recent findings Body-image perception and attitudes in obesity have been assessed using questionnaires, figural drawing scales and computer morphing or adjustment programs. Most of these techniques have been developed to assess body image in eating disorders and as such are not specific to the assessment of body image in obesity. Summary Body-image perception and body-image attitudes are commonly assessed in research studies on obesity. However, currently available assessment instruments have not been developed specifically for use in obese populations and not all have been validated in these populations. Researchers should be careful in selecting assessment instruments that are appropriate for use in obesity.

Objective and subjective sleep measures are associated with HbA1c and insulin sensitivity in the general population: Findings from the ORISCAV-LUX-2 study

G. A. Aguayo, J. Pastore, A. Backes, S. Stranges, D. R. Witte, N. J. Diederich, A. Alkerwi, L. Huiart, M. Ruiz-Castell, L. Malisoux, G. Fagherazzi

Summary: This study examined the association between sleep measures and markers of diabetes, finding that objective sleep measures were more frequently associated with glycemic control. Furthermore, associations varied within different subgroups of the population, highlighting the importance of measuring sleep patterns in diabetes prevention.

The Nutri-Score nutrition label A public health tool based on rigorous scientific evidence aiming to improve the nutritional status of the population

Serge Hercberg, Mathilde Touvier, Jordi Salas-Salvado

Summary: Nutri-Score is a front-of-pack nutrition label that uses color-coding and letters to provide consumers with information about the nutritional value of foods. It aims to help consumers make healthier choices and encourages manufacturers to improve the nutritional quality of their products.

Association between Dietary Factors and Constipation in Adults Living in Luxembourg and Taking Part in the ORISCAV-LUX 2 Survey

Maurane Rollet, Torsten Bohn, Farhad Vahid

Summary: This study investigated the association between dietary patterns and bowel movements in adults living in Luxembourg. The results showed that intake of grains and lipid-rich foods was associated with a lower constipation score, while intake of sugary products, sodium, and higher energy intake were correlated with a higher constipation score. Interestingly, neither fruits and vegetables nor dietary fiber were significantly associated with constipation.

Associations between physical activity prior to infection and COVID-19 disease severity and symptoms: results from the prospective Predi-COVID cohort study

Laurent Malisoux, Anne Backes, Aurelie Fischer, Gloria Aguayo, Markus Ollert, Guy Fagherazzi

Summary: The study found that physical activity prior to COVID-19 infection is associated with the severity of the disease and common symptoms. Engaging in high levels of physical activity can reduce the risk of moderate illness and alleviate symptoms such as fatigue, dry cough, and chest pain.

Device-measured physical activity and sedentary time in a national sample of Luxembourg residents: the ORISCAV-LUX 2 study

Paul Collings, Anne Backes, Gloria Aguayo, Laurent Malisoux

Summary: The adherence to recommended physical activity is high in the population of Luxembourg, but a significant amount of daily time is spent in sedentary behavior. Targeted efforts are needed to replace sedentary time with physical activity, especially for specific population subgroups.

Vocal biomarker predicts fatigue in people with COVID-19: results from the prospective Predi-COVID cohort study

Abir Elbeji, Lu Zhang, Eduardo Higa, Aurelie Fischer, Vladimir Despotovic, Petr Nazarov, Gloria Aguayo, Guy Fagherazzi

Summary: This study aimed to develop a vocal biomarker for fatigue monitoring in people with COVID-19. By training AI algorithms, four fatigue prediction models were successfully developed for different users, and it was demonstrated that these models can effectively discriminate between COVID-19 patients with and without fatigue.

Substituting device-measured sedentary time with alternative 24-hour movement behaviours: compositional associations with adiposity and cardiometabolic risk in the ORISCAV-LUX 2 study

Paul Collings, Anne A. Backes, Gloria Aguayo, Guy Fagherazzi, Laurent Malisoux

Summary: This study found that replacing sedentary time with moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) is beneficially associated with adiposity and cardiometabolic health markers. Replacing sedentary time with light physical activity is effective in reducing body fat and fasting insulin, and has better predictive effects on triglycerides and apolipoprotein B/A1 ratio. Increasing sleep time, by reducing sedentary time, can lower obesity risk in short sleepers.
