Summary: In this study, the authors used SEM and EBSD to investigate the orientation, microstructure, and texture evolution of TiB whiskers during hot rolling. They also tested the mechanical properties of the rolled composites in different loading directions at room temperature. The effects of texture on dislocation slip modes, as well as the strengthening contribution of TiB whiskers, were analyzed. The study also comprehensively analyzed the impact of matrix texture, TiB whisker orientation, and Hall-Petch relationship on the anisotropy of mechanical properties in the rolled composites.

Summary: Rodents actively use whisking to probe their environment and anticipate object locations. Whisking control involves minimizing prediction errors from unexpected contacts, driving an active inference process. The model may help explain how neural circuits underlie whisking behavior in rodents.

Summary: In situ synthesized MgAl2O4 whiskers reinforced 6061 Al alloy composites were fabricated by a powder metallurgy method. The recrystallization behavior of the obtained composites was investigated through annealing at different temperatures. The presence of whiskers inhibited the recrystallization process and slender fibrous grains remained even at 630 degrees C. The mechanical properties of the annealed samples showed a slight decline with increasing annealing temperature up to 600 degrees C.

Summary: Considerable studies have been done on property anisotropy induced by crystallographic textures in processed pure titanium and titanium alloys, but limited information is available for the intrinsic coupling of matrix and reinforcement textures and their synergistic effect on property anisotropy in titanium matrix composites. In this study, an advanced EBSD/EDS coupling method was used to investigate the formation mechanism of primary alpha and secondary alpha textures in the matrix alloy. It is revealed that the reinforcement TiBw displays a specific texture after hot rolling and has little effect on the matrix texture component. Significant anisotropies in the tensile strength and ductility can be observed, which is the synergistic effect of the matrix texture and the aligned TiBw.

Summary: A strong and ductile Mg-Zn-Zr alloy thin sheet was developed in this study, with fiber basal texture and a large amount of pre-induced dislocations and nano-size precipitates observed in the grain interior. Deformation was accommodated through twinning and dislocations, leading to high yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and fracture elongation.

Summary: Understanding the dynamic sensory perception of older adults is crucial for developing nutritional beverages for this demographic. This study used the Temporal Dominance of Sensations (TDS) methodology to investigate the differences in dynamic perception among older adults for various Oral Nutritional Supplements (ONS) with different textures. The study found that older adults effectively used the TDS technique to discriminate between different ONS and generated clear TDS curves. There were also some similarities in dominant attributes between older and younger cohorts. The findings enhance our understanding of how older adults evaluate liquid products using the TDS technique.

Summary: This study quantified individual sensation under the stimulation of multiple environmental factors and developed artificial neural networks for prediction. The results indicated crossed and interaction effects of environmental factors on occupants' sensation, and identified the environmental parameters leading to a neutral sensation. Recommendations for environment control strategies and further research were also provided based on the findings.

Summary: Spoofing attacks on fingerprint scanners are a major concern, and existing spoof detection methods have limited performance. This paper proposes a static software approach that combines pores perspiration and texture features to identify live and fake fingerprints. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art methods.
