Summary: The EU Public Health Best Practice Portal aims to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and their risk factors through the exchange of best practices. The portal rigorously selects best practices and also provides an overview of similar initiatives collecting and disseminating information on NCD interventions. The exchange of best practices is a promising tool in tackling NCDs.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the awareness of the general public and healthcare providers in Qassim region of Saudi Arabia regarding COVID-19. Results showed that the majority of participants were aware that COVID-19 is a respiratory disease and recognized it as a contagious disease. There was a significant positive correlation between various aspects of awareness and recognition of high-risk groups, reliable sources of information, infection symptoms, disease prevention, and available treatments.

Summary: Modern healthcare systems are disease-centric, but a health-centric approach recognizing lifestyle disorders as a result of mitochondrial dysfunction is more effective. Metabolic strategies like fasting and carbohydrate restriction can improve the metabolic syndrome and potentially benefit atherosclerosis, cancer, and neurodegeneration. Integrating metabolic strategies into healthcare systems should be a global health priority.

Summary: The study found that the prevalence of metabolic syndrome did not significantly increase among the Hungarian Roma population from 2011 to 2018. However, there was a significant increase in central obesity and high blood pressure or treated hypertension. These changes were mainly observed in younger age groups, with a significant increase in metabolic syndrome risk in the 20-34 and 35-49 age groups in the 2018 study population compared to 2011.

Summary: This study synthesized the evidence on the association between human phthalate exposure and metabolic syndrome or its components. The results showed a positive association between prenatal exposure to most phthalates and markers of obesity in offspring, while the association between postnatal exposure and obesity was contradictory. Postnatal phthalate exposure showed consistent associations with markers of diabetes and triglyceride levels, but less evidence and contradictory results were found for HDL-c levels and markers of hypertension.

Summary: Quorum sensing is a widespread cell-cell communication mechanism that can regulate metabolic fluxes. The regulatory roles of CRP-binding site and lux box to -10 region in controlling QS promoters have been discovered. By varying the numbers of CRP-binding site and redesigning the lux box to -10 site sequence, a library of QS variants with high dynamic ranges and low leakiness has been created.

Summary: The government in Saudi Arabia has successfully implemented various strategies and methods through the Ministry of Health to control the spread of influenza in the population. While most participants have good knowledge levels, attitudes towards influenza vaccination still need improvement. Participants with a history of vaccination show higher levels of knowledge and more positive attitudes, leading to increased vaccination coverage.

Summary: This study investigates the association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and metabolic syndrome (MetS) using five different criteria to define MetS. The results show that in males, the prevalence of MetS is higher in the H. pylori-positive group compared to the negative group, while in females, similar results are observed using three international criteria. Multivariate logistic regression analysis reveals a positive correlation between H. pylori infection and MetS in males. Additionally, H. pylori infection is found to be positively correlated with waist circumference in the general population, and with hypertension and hyperglycemia in males.

Summary: The study found an association between metabolic syndrome and the occurrence of acute pancreatitis, with a higher incidence rate of metabolic syndrome in investigated AP patients compared to controls. Multivariate regression analysis showed a significant association between smoking, alcohol consumption history, biliary stones, total cholesterol, triglyceride, hyperglycaemia, apolipoprotein A, and the occurrence of AP.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the level of knowledge of healthcare professional candidate students about inborn metabolic diseases. The knowledge levels of 761 students enrolled in various healthcare departments were evaluated through a face-to-face interview questionnaire. The results showed that the students had an average knowledge-level score of 14.23±4.56, and factors such as exposure to awareness campaigns, department of education, and grade level were found to affect their knowledge levels.

Summary: This article is a narrative review on contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) after non-cardiac vascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The article summarizes the available literature on the definition, pathophysiology, incidence, risk factors, biomarkers, and consequences of CIN in these settings, as well as preventive strategies and alternatives to limit the use of iodinated contrast medium. This is an important field that requires further research.

Summary: Cilostazol improves walking distance in patients with PAD, but may lead to side effects such as headache. The evidence on its effectiveness for serious events like amputation, revascularisation, and cardiovascular events is insufficient. There is also limited data on the comparison between cilostazol and pentoxifylline.
