Summary: This study found that differences in serum lipidomic profiles were associated with neuropathy in type 2 diabetes. Changes in abundance of medium-chain acylcarnitines and total free fatty acids, as well as phosphatidylcholines and lysophosphatidylcholines, were observed 10 years prior to the development of neuropathy. These findings suggest that lipid profiles early in the disease course may be useful in identifying individuals at risk for neuropathy in type 2 diabetes.

Summary: The study evaluated cardiovascular autonomic activity in diabetic patients and found a strong correlation between CAN and patient age, duration of disease, HbA1c levels, and waist-hip ratio. The duration of disease and poor glycemic control were associated with the development of CAN, and parasympathetic impairment may be more sensitive in detecting autonomic dysfunctions.

Summary: In this study, a multiethnic collaboration named ProDiGY identified genetic variants predisposing to youth-onset type 2 diabetes, including seven genome-wide significant loci such as the novel locus rs10992863 in PHF2. Secondary analysis revealed an additional locus in CPEB2, providing insights into the genetic underpinnings of youth-onset type 2 diabetes.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence and risk factors of type-2 DM in Ethiopian population. The pooled prevalence of DM in Ethiopia was 6.5%, with identified risk factors including older age, illiteracy, cigarette smoking, MBI >= 25, family history of DM, history of hypertension, and physical inactivity. Awareness of these risk factors is crucial for effective prevention and management of type-2 DM in this population.

Summary: The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in the development of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes. Modulating the gut microbiota through probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, and fecal microbial transplantation shows potential in treating diabetes and its complications. The severity of gut microbiota dysbiosis is associated with disease severity, and restoration of the gut microbiota through probiotic administration can improve symptoms and disease progression.

Summary: Social networks have been causally related to disease and mortality risk for decades, but research in this field for diabetes care is still in its early stages. Studies have found that living alone and lack of social support are associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes, while social support has a positive impact on self-management of diabetes.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of periodontitis in children and adolescents with type 2 diabetes and investigate whether poor glycemic control is associated with an increased prevalence of the disease. The results showed that these patients had a high prevalence of periodontitis, and uncontrolled blood sugar levels influenced the prevalence of periodontal disease.

Summary: This study found that the prevalence of obesity is increasing in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D), and obesity is associated with an increased risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD). After adjusting for age, the burden of CKD in T1D exceeds that in type 2 diabetes (T2D), highlighting the need for increased vigilance and assessment of kidney-protective medications in T1D.

Summary: The incidence of DFU hospitalizations in patients with type 2 diabetes has increased between different age groups, especially in younger participants. Factors such as PSN, peripheral arterial disease, and suboptimal glycemic control at baseline were identified as independent predictors of incident hospitalization for/with DFU.

Summary: In participants with longstanding diabetes, neuropathy and kidney disease worsened during follow-up, despite stable to improving MetS components. Early metabolic intervention is necessary to prevent complications in such patients. The number of MetS components was associated with an increased rate of neuropathy progression, and SBP was associated with each complication.

Summary: Social deprivation is an independent risk factor for the development of DFD, PN, FU, PVD, LLA, and gangrene in newly diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes. Strategies targeting patients in socially deprived areas are needed to reduce health inequalities considering the high individual and economic burdens of DFD.

Summary: Community-clinical linkages play a crucial role in improving population health by connecting community and clinical sectors, with community pharmacists serving as key implementers. Through the pharmacist navigation program, preventive screenings, referrals, and social service recommendations were successfully carried out in African American communities, enhancing access to healthcare and social services for residents. The ability of pharmacists to deliver clinical preventive services in nontraditional health care settings and improve care access through community-clinical linkages was demonstrated and validated.

Summary: Despite the steady increase in consumption of higher alcohol content beer over the decade, households do not appear to be consuming more standard drinks of alcohol from beer as a result. Instead, there was a sharp decline in standard drink intake from beer post-2011, coinciding with various beer industry transitions, market share fluctuations, and changes in consumer preference for beer.
