Summary: Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A(2) (Lp-PLA(2)) associates with lipoproteins in human plasma and hydrolyzes oxidized phospholipids. The mechanism of enzyme-membrane association and substrate specificity were studied using lipidomics and mass spectrometry techniques.

Summary: Through genome-wide analysis of DNA methylation, it was found that hypomethylation in vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques is associated with genes involved in inflammation, indicating a potential role in driving the progression and destabilization of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Summary: This study found that the serum marker Lp-PLA2 is an independent risk factor for the occurrence and progression of VBD to posterior circulation ischemic stroke. Age and serum level of Lp-PLA2 were significantly associated with VBD and VBD with ischemic stroke.

Summary: The study found that elevated levels of Lp(a) are associated with unfavorable functional outcomes in patients with ischemic stroke. Furthermore, the combination of high Lp(a) and high Lp-PLA(2) levels showed the highest incidence of unfavorable functional outcomes at 3 months and 1 year after ischemic stroke.

Summary: A wealth of evidence suggests that Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) plays a relevant role in atherogenesis and inflammation, which in turn are associated with the risk of developing dementia. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether serum Lp-PLA2 activity might be an early and/or late biomarker for different forms of dementia. We found that VAD patients had significantly higher levels of Lp-PLA2 activity compared to other groups, and MCI patients who converted to VAD also had higher levels of Lp-PLA2 activity. After adjusting for potential confounders, high levels of Lp-PLA2 activity were associated with the diagnosis of VAD, but not with other types of dementia.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnosis of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) in early diabetic nephropathy (DN). The results showed that Lp-PLA2 level was significantly higher in the DN groups compared to the DM group, and it was positively correlated with disease progression. Lp-PLA2 can be used as an independent factor for the evaluation and monitoring of early DN.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the contributory role of Lp-PLA2 in B-NHL development in primary SS patients. Results showed that serum Lp-PLA2 activity was significantly increased in SS-L patients, and Lp-PLA2 expression in MSG tissues was also higher in SS-L patients compared to SS-nL patients and healthy controls. These findings suggest that Lp-PLA2 could potentially serve as a new biomarker and therapeutic target for B-cell lymphoproliferation in the context of SS.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of physical activity and sedentary time on the level of Lp-PLA(2) mass. The results showed a positive correlation between sedentary minutes per day and Lp-PLA(2), and a negative correlation between light intensity physical activity and Lp-PLA(2). Subjects with higher Lp-PLA(2) mass had more sedentary time and less light intensity physical activity. The study suggests that overall physical activity habits, including sedentary time and lower intensity physical activity, affect the levels of Lp-PLA2, an important inflammatory marker and marker of cardiovascular disease risk.
