In this study, the CdS nanocrystalline thin films obtained from an ammonia-free chemical bath deposition process. The crystallites with a size range of 10-20 nm in diameter with zinc blend (cubic) and wurtzite (hexagonal) crystal structure and strong photoluminescence were prepared from the mixture solutions of: cadmium chloride dihydrate as a cadmium source, thiourea as a sulfur source and sodium citrate dihydrate as a complexing agent for cadmium ions. The well-cleaned glass used as a substrate for thin films deposition. The obtained samples were characterized by the techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and fluorescence spectroscopy. Also, the effect of two parameters such as pH and temperature of reaction on the synthesis of CdS nanocrystals was studied. Finally, it was found the CdS nanocrystals showed sharp excitation features and strong band-edge emission. Crown Copyright (C) 2009 Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Summary: Green chemistry has shown great promise in biomedical applications, particularly in cancer therapy. Chitosan-based nanoparticles (CS-NPs) serve as a promising carrier for anti-cancer drugs, overcoming drug resistance and enabling synergistic therapy. Various types of nanostructures can be modified with chitosan for efficient delivery of chemotherapeutic agents such as doxorubicin (DOX). The functionalization of CS-NPs with ligands and their pH-sensitive and redox-responsive characteristics further enhance their selectivity and drug release. Considering their high encapsulation efficiency and biocompatibility, significant progress is expected in the clinical translation of CS-NPs.

On the relationship of morphology evolution and thermal conductivity of flax reinforced polypropylene laminates

Masoud Bodaghi, Doriane Delfrari, Margot Lucas, Noha-Lys Senoussaoui, Yao Koutsawa, Burcu Karaca Ugural, Henri Perrin

Summary: This paper investigates the morphology evolution in the forming process of unidirectional flax reinforced polypropylene composite laminates and its link with thermal conductivity during consolidation stages. The microscopic evolution of the laminates in terms of morphology and porosity fractions is evaluated by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray microtomography (mu-CT). The in-plane thermal conductivity of the laminates almost linearly increases with the reduction of porosity fraction, while the transverse thermal conductivity remains constant. A theoretical model based on a two-level Mori-Tanaka homogenization method is proposed to predict the behavior of the three-phases material, showing good agreement with experimental data but limited predictivity for porosity levels above 15% due to simplifying assumptions.
