Three polymorphic forms of the molybdenum-(VI) complex [MoO2(L)(EtoH)] (1 alpha, 1 beta, and 1 gamma) (L2- = 4-methoxy-2-oxybenzaldehyde isonicotinylhydrazonate) were synthesized by the reaction of H2L with the dioxobis(acetylacetonato)molybdenum(VI) complex, [MoO2(acac)(2)], in ethanol. Removal of the coordinated ethanol molecule upon grinding or heating led to the solid-state transformation of the polymorphs 1 alpha, 1 beta, or 1 gamma into the coordination polymer [MoO2(L)](n) (2a). The square inclusion complex [MoO2(L)](4)superset of CH2Cl2 center dot 4CH(2)Cl(2) (2b superset of CH2Cl2 center dot 4CH(2)Cl(2)) was obtained by a self-assembly reaction in dichloromethane. Standard Gibbs energies of binding for molybdenum(VI) compounds [MoO2(L)(D)] with the sixth coordination site occupied by a nitrogen or an oxygen donor D were estimated using quantum chemical calculations. Crystal and molecular structures of the molybdenum(VI) compounds [MoO2(L)(EtOH)] (1 alpha, 1 beta, and 1 gamma), [MoO2(L)](4)superset of CH2Cl2 center dot 4CH(2)Cl(2) (2b superset of CH2Cl2 center dot 4CH(2)Cl(2)), [MoO2(L)(gamma-pic)]center dot gamma-pic (3.gamma-pic), [MoO2(L)(py)] (4), and [MoO2(L)(DMSO)] (5) were determined by the single crystal X-ray diffraction method. The compounds were further characterized by chemical analysis, thermogravimetric, and differential scanning calorimetry measurements, IR, UV-vis, one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopies, and the powder X-ray diffraction method.

Summary: The study confirmed that quinuclidinium carbamates are promising candidates for further development as CNS-active drugs, particularly for Alzheimer's disease treatment. The synthesized compounds showed good acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase inhibitory activity, and were able to pass the blood-brain barrier.

Implication of oxidant activation on olefin epoxidation catalysed by Molybdenum catalysts with aroylhydrazonato ligands: Experimental and theoretical studies

Summary: The study investigated the catalytic activity of dinuclear and mononuclear molybdenum(VI) complexes with aroylhydrazonato ligands in the epoxidation of cyclooctene and oct-1-ene. Different isomers of aroylhydrazones led to specific [MoO2L] units with varying catalytic activity, with TBHP in decane providing outstanding results for cyclooctene epoxidation. DFT calculations confirmed the relationship between ligand nature and reactivity with oxidant agents TBHP and H2O2, proposing a plausible mechanism with H2O2 after considering various pathways.

Summary: A series of N-substituted quaternary salts of cinchonidine were prepared and evaluated for their antimicrobial activity, showing good potential against a diverse panel of bacteria. By establishing an activity/potential energy surface model, accurate predictions of activity for new compounds can be made based solely on their potential energy surfaces, facilitating the search for new potential antibiotics.

Summary: This study investigated the propensity of 4-hydroxybenzhydrazone-related ligands derived from 3-methoxysalicylaldehyde, 4-methoxysalicylaldehyde, and salicylaldehyde to act as chelating and/or bridging ligands in Ni(II) complexes. Different clusters with various nuclearities were prepared and characterized. The ligands in these clusters acted as singly or doubly deprotonated ligands. The stability and substituent effects of square-planar complexes were studied and quantified. The crystal and molecular structures of several complexes were determined.
