Summary: Armored red blood cells are a new type of hybrid biomaterials with native red blood cells assembled within and protected by a functional exoskeleton of interconnected MOF nanoparticles. The formation of exoskeletons is rapid and based on metal-phenolic coordination and hydrogen-bonding interactions. Armored RBCs retain the original properties of RBCs and demonstrate enhanced resistance against external stressors, offering potential applications in blood nitric oxide sensing or multimodal imaging.

Summary: By incorporating stereo-electronic information on synthetic organic building blocks and templates, and utilizing non-directional interactions, achiral constituents can be selectively assembled into complex covalent architectures with multiple stereogenic elements. This proof of concept has implications beyond supramolecular chemistry and could stimulate the on-demand production of highly structured polyfunctional architectures.

Summary: Chiral hybrid organic-inorganic metal halides (HOMHs) with intrinsic noncentrosymmetry have great potential in various applications. This study successfully constructed a series of chiral HOMHs using an induction approach, resulting in products with superior optical properties. The use of this induction approach could facilitate the construction of chiral HOMH libraries from achiral precursors.

Summary: Researchers have successfully prepared a crystalline film based on porphyrin with chiral properties and demonstrated excellent optoelectronic performance. By assembling in a metal-organic framework film, the porphyrin core becomes twisted and chiral. The close packing and crystalline order of the porphyrin cores in the film result in outstanding optoelectronic properties. Through exciting the Soret band of porphyrin, efficient photoconduction with a high On-Off ratio is achieved. Moreover, handedness-dependent circularly-polarized-light photoconduction is obtained. The combination of assembly-induced chirality with the rich porphyrin chemistry opens up possibilities for organic materials with exceptional chiral and optoelectronic properties.

Summary: In this study, two chiral radial [5]catenanes were successfully synthesized in a single step through the self-assembly of bidentate ligands containing L-alanine residues and binuclear half-sandwich organometallic rhodium(III)/iridium(III) clips. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction results revealed the complex stereochemical structures of these two chiral radial [5]catenanes.

Summary: New chiral tetranuclear square-like homo- and hetero-metallamacrocycles containing allyl-palladium and optically pure moieties have been successfully synthesized. The structures have been characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and MS spectrometry. XRD analysis confirms the structural characteristics of the new metallamacrocycles. These architectures have shown catalytic activity in asymmetric allylic alkylation reaction.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a chiral metal-organic framework can guide the formation of highly chiral nanocomposites with intense chiral signals from buckminsterfullerene through in situ self-assembly strategy. Experimental and theoretical studies reveal that the chiral induction is attributed to the hybridization of molecular orbitals with the pore surface of the MOF.
