Summary: The study aimed to determine the prevalence of HSV DNA in corneal tissue of PKP patients with and without history of herpetic keratitis. Results showed a higher positivity rate in patients with clinical HSK history. Despite lack of clinical suspicion, HSV DNA was detected in some corneal tissues, suggesting the need for additional antiviral treatment in these cases.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the frequency of complications related to corneal grafts and identify risk factors. A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent penetrating keratoplasty between 2016 and 2020. The most common treatment complication was secondary glaucoma, followed by late endothelial failure, perforation, and bacterial keratitis. Ophthalmic and connective tissue diseases were significant factors associated with the occurrence of complications.

Summary: Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare, chronic papulosquamous disorder characterized by scaling plaques, palmoplantar keratoderma, and keratotic follicular papules. It has been associated with various immunodeficient states and malignancies. Treatment may involve corticosteroids, immunomodulators, or biologic therapy.

Summary: This article presents two cases of erythrodermic pityriasis rubra pilaris that showed a rapid and almost complete response to tildrakizumab. Treatment of this condition is challenging, and there is limited evidence regarding the use of interleukin-23 blockers. These cases may contribute to expanding the available therapeutic options, particularly when fast clearance of lesions is required.

Summary: Pityriasis rubra pilaris is a rare disorder of cornification that affects both adult and pediatric patients, making clinical trials and universal treatment approaches challenging. Case reports and case series are the primary means of assessment for treatment options. Topicals are commonly used for pediatric patients, while oral retinoids are generally accepted as a first-line therapy. Interleukin-17 inhibitors and ustekinumab may also become first-line treatments due to their efficacy and relative safety. Second-line and adjunctive therapies such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha inhibitors, methotrexate, and phototherapy can be considered if initial treatments fail.

Summary: Through global transcriptomic profiling, it was found that there is a high overlap between plaque psoriasis and pityriasis rubra pilaris skin lesions, indicating a common molecular signature between these skin disorders. The study highlights the important role of phospholipases as regulators of epidermal barrier homeostasis and inflammation, identifying them as a shared pathogenic mechanism between PRP and psoriasis, and as potential therapeutic targets for both diseases.

Summary: Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare skin disease that is mainly treated based on case reports and expert opinions. Treatment with biologicals, particularly anti-TNF and α, has been reported, but the involvement of the IL-23/Th17 axis may provide a potential therapeutic target. This study presents three pediatric PRP patients successfully treated with risankizumab, showing good efficacy and safety.

Summary: Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare chronic inflammatory skin condition with limited treatment options. This study retrospectively analyzed data from 13 PRP patients in Australia from 2010 to 2019. Acitretin was the most commonly used systemic agent but resulted in adverse events in some cases. Complete clearance of PRP was achieved in 5 cases without biologic agents, and 2 cases showed marked improvement with biologic agents.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to compare the surgical outcomes of combined penetrating keratoplasty (PK) and cataract surgery with those of sequential surgery (cataract surgery after PK) for herpes simplex keratitis (HSK). The results showed that in the active stage, combined surgery had more complications and lower graft survival rate compared to sequential surgery. In the stable stage, combined surgery had better outcomes than sequential surgery. Therefore, sequential surgery has advantages in terms of fewer complications and higher graft survival rate in the active stage, while combined surgery is more effective in the stable stage.

Summary: The study found that mice exposed to polluted air developed a severe form of herpes simplex keratitis, with increased corneal neovascularization, viral DNA, and production of various inflammatory cytokines. In polluted air, a large number of corneal immune cells were activated, and there was a significant influx of bone marrow-derived cells during acute herpes simplex keratitis.

Summary: Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare hyperkeratotic papulosquamous disorder. Rheumatologic manifestations of PRP are less known and rare compared to psoriasis. This article presents an interesting case of inflammatory arthritis in an adolescent patient successfully treated with adalimumab, supporting the diagnosis of type IV circumscribed juvenile PRP according to the literature.

Summary: Pathogenic variants in the ABCA12 gene are important for the development of autosomal recessive congenital ichthyoses. In addition, these variants can also cause a non-congenital form of ichthyosis. This study found patients who carried ABCA12 variants but did not exhibit the typical congenital ichthyosis phenotype. These patients had unaffected geographic areas on their skin, suggesting a milder phenotype.

Summary: Herpes simplex virus (HSV) keratitis is a leading cause of blindness worldwide and affects a large population. Although there are currently no vaccines available, treatment options such as antiviral drugs and steroids can help manage the disease. However, these treatments do not eliminate the virus and are ineffective against recurrent infections, highlighting the need for further research on alternative therapies.
