Summary: This study investigated the impact of risk factors on pregnancy- or combined oral contraceptive (COC)-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE). Results showed that family history was a significant and independent risk factor for COC-VTE and pregnancy-associated VTE. Therefore, family history plays a crucial role in predicting the occurrence of VTE in the context of pregnancy or COC use.

Summary: This study found that a remote history of venous thrombosis (VT) is associated with an increased risk of VT in older individuals, providing valuable information for clinicians to advise patients on VT prevention.

Summary: Exogenous hormone therapies like combined oral contraceptives (COC) and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can increase blood hypercoagulability and the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Controversy exists on the strength of this provoking risk factor and how it may synergize with other risk factors. Reviewing the latest literature on COC and HRT usage can provide guidance for anticoagulation duration decisions and future research direction.

Summary: This nationwide cohort study in Sweden found that men with prostate cancer had a 50% increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) compared with men without prostate cancer during a 5-year follow-up period.

Summary: In a racially and geographically diverse US cohort, there was no significant association found between television viewing and risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), even after adjusting for factors like physical activity.

Summary: The study found that chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is highly prevalent in the population and closely associated with cardiovascular risk factors and disease. Patients with CVI face an increased risk of death, independent of factors such as age, gender, and other cardiovascular risk factors.

Summary: Cushing's syndrome is associated with multi-system complications including hematological abnormalities. Hemostatic parameter alterations and endothelial dysfunction lead to increased thrombotic events, particularly within 1-2 months post-surgery. Evaluation and risk stratification of patients is crucial in preventing these events.

Summary: HIV patients have a higher risk of developing venous thromboembolism (VTE), which is the third most common cardiovascular condition in this population. Understanding the epidemiology, pathophysiology, molecular mechanisms, and therapeutic interventions of VTE in HIV is crucial for optimizing treatment outcomes and balancing risks and benefits.

Summary: Patients with cancer have a higher risk of developing venous thromboembolism (VTE), which leads to poorer survival compared to cancer alone. This study aimed to investigate the impact of VTE on cancer patients' survival in a general population. The findings showed that cancer patients with VTE had a 3.4-fold higher risk of death compared to those without VTE, regardless of cancer type.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis of three epidemiological studies in Canada to estimate the national VTE incidence rate. The results showed a higher VTE incidence in females and the elderly, which was consistent with estimates from studies in other jurisdictions.

Summary: This study compared the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) among young women using different combined oral contraceptives (COCs). The results showed that COCs containing dienogest, cyproterone, chlormadinone, desogestrel, and drospirenone had a two-fold increased risk of VTE compared to COCs containing levonorgestrel with low ethinylestradiol (<50 μg). Gestodene-containing COCs had a five-fold increased risk of VTE. Norgestimate and nomegestrol had a two-fold and 40% increased risk, respectively.

Summary: The crosstalk between coagulation and innate immunity contributes to the progression of many diseases, and the activation of inflammasome and pyroptosis play important roles in the development of venous thrombosis. Deficiency of caspase-1 or GSDMD may protect against venous thrombosis, and tissue factor released from pyroptotic monocytes and macrophages triggers thrombosis.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the prospective association between LE8 score and the risks of ASCVD and VTE. The results showed that a high LE8 score was significantly associated with a lower risk of ASCVD, but not with VTE risk.
