Summary: LDX therapy for ADHD is associated with higher costs but appears to be a cost-effective choice compared to MPH, based on the Incremental Cost-Effectiveness Ratio (ICER) and probabilities calculated in the study. Incorporating LDX into Iran's healthcare system may result in a financial burden initially, but could provide benefits over time in managing ADHD.

Summary: In recent years, the use of prescription stimulants in the United States has been increasing, particularly for amphetamine and lisdexamfetamine. The study found that the usage of stimulants in the Western region was lower compared to other regions, and areas with a higher percentage of Hispanic populations also had lower stimulant usage.

Summary: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Treatment options for ADHD include psychoeducation, pharmacological interventions, and non-pharmacological interventions. There is a need for improvement in current pharmacotherapeutic strategies and the development of novel medications.

Summary: By studying the single-cell resolution of Drosophila, we found that methylphenidate and atomoxetine have different effects on neuronal and glial cells, as well as distinct transcriptional changes. Methylphenidate has a stronger response on dopamine receptor genes, while the effect of atomoxetine is relatively weaker.

Summary: Atomoxetine is a neuroactive drug approved for the treatment of ADHD, known for blocking the noradrenaline transporter but also showing interactions with NMDA receptors. It has been found to inhibit sodium channels in a state- and use-dependent manner in heart muscle, with potential antiarrhythmic properties.

Summary: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common and impairing mental disorder that affects individuals throughout the day. Impaired functioning in children and adolescents with ADHD, including in the early morning, can increase stress on caregivers. Treatments that are available upon awakening have shown to statistically separate from placebo for early morning functioning improvement in patients with ADHD.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and safety of atomoxetine and OROS methylphenidate as adjunctive treatments in adults with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and comorbid partially responsive major depressive disorder (MDD). The results showed that both medications significantly improved depressive and ADHD symptoms, with no significant differences between the two groups. Additionally, there were no significant differences in safety measures between the atomoxetine and methylphenidate groups.

Summary: Neuroimaging has been extensively used to study brain structure and function in individuals with ADHD and ASD. However, there have been limitations in the current literature, such as small sample sizes and heterogeneous methods. To address these limitations, the ENIGMA-ADHD and ENIGMA-ASD working groups were established to collaborate on large-scale neuroimaging projects. The findings so far have shown overlap and unique differences in cortical structures between ASD and ADHD. Ongoing work is exploring other research questions.

Summary: Recent phase 3 clinical trials of ADHD medications utilized the Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scale-Parent Report (WFIRS-P) for assessment. Results showed significant improvements in functional impairment with lisdexamfetamine dimesylate (LDX) and guanfacine extended release (GXR) treatments, with factors like oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and ADHD subtypes impacting baseline scores. Monitoring improvements in functioning and quality of life is crucial for optimal management of individuals with ADHD.

Summary: A retrospective cohort study found that during the covid-19 lockdown in March and April 2020, there was a decrease in emergency psychiatric hospital presentations for children and adolescents compared to the same period in 2019. However, the proportion of children and adolescents presenting with self-harm increased, with a higher proportion of them having emotional disorders. The study also showed a decrease in the proportion of children and adolescents admitted to an observation ward in 2020. Service planners should prioritize developing intensive community care services with outreach capabilities in similar situations.

Summary: The first European guidelines for Tourette Syndrome (TS) were published in 2011 by the European Society for the Study of Tourette Syndrome (ESSTS). The updated part on pharmacological treatment emphasizes the importance of psychoeducation and behavioral approaches as first-line treatments. Pharmacological treatment, particularly with dopamine blocking agents like aripiprazole, is indicated in some patients, especially when behavioral approaches are not effective or feasible. Treatment should be individualized based on the patient's needs, preferences, and co-existing conditions.

Summary: There has been a significant increase in adolescents and young adults seeking urgent help for functional tic-like behaviors (FTLBs) between 2019 and 2022. An international collaborative group collected retrospective data to better understand this spectrum and its clinical differences from primary tic disorders. The study findings suggest that social media exposure may be a relevant contributing factor to FTLBs.
