Summary: Herbal products are commonly used during pregnancy, but the active substances in herbs may affect fetal development. Ginger is extensively studied and may help relieve hyperemesis gravidarum without increasing adverse effects for women or fetuses. However, data on other herbs are inconsistent with no clear conclusions. Caution should be exercised when using herbal products during pregnancy.

Summary: The increasing demand for fish consumption has led to the rapid growth of fish aquaculture. However, the use of antibiotics and chemicals for disease prevention and control in fish farming is restricted due to issues such as drug residues, pathogen resistance, and environmental pollution. Herbs and their extracts have emerged as promising alternatives because they are effective, safe, environmentally friendly, and have lower drug resistance. This paper comprehensively summarizes the research progress of herbal ingredients used for disease prevention and control in fish, particularly focusing on their mechanisms of action, and highlights the potential application of herbal medicines in fish aquaculture.

Summary: Smoking cessation medications are a crucial part of tobacco control programs globally, but their impact on population smoking prevalence remains controversial. Estimating the potential impact of SCMs on permanent cessation and population smoking prevalence reveals limited effectiveness in increasing cessation rates and reducing smoking prevalence in populations, particularly under current conditions.

Summary: The study evaluated unilateral transcranial photobiomodulation as a treatment for opioid use disorder in a randomized controlled trial involving 39 participants at 2 sites. The findings showed that the active treatment significantly reduced opioid cravings and use compared to the sham treatment, with improvements observed in both buprenorphine users and non-users. No adverse effects were reported in either group.

Summary: This study examined the trends and patterns of opioid and non-opioid pharmacotherapy use among privately insured pediatric patients with cancer in the United States. It found that the use of opioids among pediatric patients with cancer has been declining in recent years, while the use of non-opioid pharmacotherapy for pain management has been increasing.

Summary: COPD is a major global public health concern with high rates of morbidity and mortality. While current therapeutic guidelines recommend bronchodilators and corticosteroids, there is no drug therapy to halt disease progression. Oxidative stress and altered immune response are believed to play major roles in COPD development, and potential therapeutic targets include immune regulatory pathways and steroid resistance induced by oxidative stress signaling. This article discusses novel aspects of signaling pathway activation in inflammation and oxidative stress, and potential pharmacotherapies that target the underlying mechanistic disease process in COPD.

Summary: The co-administration of herbal medicines and conventional medicines in stroke patients showed minimal impact on liver and kidney function, with only 1% of patients experiencing liver injury in a study of 401 patients. Patients recovered quickly even in severe cases of liver damage, indicating the safe use of this combination therapy.

Summary: Existing maintenance management systems are insufficient for establishing long-term and analytical budget plans due to their reliance on periodic inspections and diagnoses for facility repairs. This study introduces a detailed method for estimating infrastructure management costs that considers performance and cost effects throughout the life cycle, aiming to meet the requirements of the Framework Act on Sustainable Infrastructure Management. The proposed method involves analyzing performance degradation timing, determining proper construction methods, assessing representative life, and determining optimal action timing for repair and reinforcement plans.

Summary: The review focuses on the effects of TGF-beta 1 in different cellular processes of PF and the recent research on Chinese herbal medicines to inhibit TGF-beta 1 signaling in PF. It suggests that understanding the inhibiting effects of CHM on TGF-beta 1-mediated cellular processes of PF can enhance the utilization of CHM in practice.

Summary: Reintroductions are a popular tool for preventing extinctions, but their success rate is low. A study comparing the release of wild-reared non-juveniles and captive-bred chicks for the reintroduction of Bonelli's eagles on Mallorca found that the former strategy was more effective in maintaining the population in the long term.
