Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of sinus removal combined with vacuum-assisted closure in the treatment of sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus. The results showed that compared with simple sinus resection and suture, sinus resection combined with closed negative pressure drainage significantly reduced surgery time, hospital stay, and return time. This approach effectively relieved postoperative pain, reduced the occurrence of postoperative complications, resulted in smaller postoperative scars, and yielded better aesthetic outcomes and higher patient satisfaction.

Summary: This study aims to analyze the efficacy differences of different surgical approaches for the treatment of pilonidal sinus (PS). The systematic review and meta-analysis of 27 articles found that the midline closure technique had higher recurrence and infection rates compared to other techniques. The authors suggest formulating an individualized surgical plan based on patient's needs, appearance of the PS, and surgeon's professional ability.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of the Karydakis flap technique and the partial primary closure technique for pilonidal sinus disease treatment. The results showed that the partial primary closure group had shorter hospitalization stay, longer healing time, and similar complication rates compared to the Karydakis technique.

Summary: This mapping review provides a comprehensive overview of research on the management of pilonidal sinus, spanning eight decades. The majority of studies focused on surgical techniques, adjuvant medical interventions, and wound care, with around 30% of the evidence base coming from randomized controlled trials. Further research is needed to identify leading interventions, understand variations in practice and patient values, and prioritize future research directions.

Summary: Cardiac complications in patients with anorexia nervosa are a major concern, but the risk factors for these complications are not well-known. Our study found a relatively low prevalence of cardiac involvement, except for sinus bradycardia, in our cohort. Cardiac aberrations were correlated with lower body mass index (BMI) at admission, as well as the presence of amenorrhea and hypotension. Patients with these clinical variables may be at a higher risk for abnormal cardiac findings, and dividing patients into high and low risk groups could help avoid unnecessary cardiac investigations.

Summary: This study is a systematic review and updated meta-analysis that presents evidence for the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in promoting wound healing in sacrococcygeal pilonidal disease. The findings suggest that PRP application can significantly reduce healing time, postoperative pain, and time off work in patients undergoing open surgery for pilonidal disease.

Summary: Squamous cell carcinoma arising in a sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus is rare, and cases of metastatic disease are even rarer. This study aims to shed light on the treatment of metastatic disease through presenting cases and reviewing previous reports. The use of systemic treatment shows some benefit, but there is currently no strong evidence to recommend a specific treatment or sequence.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of sinus laser therapy (SiLaT) and sinus lay open in the management of sacrococcygeal pilonidal disease (SPND). The results showed that sinus lay open had a higher success rate, while SiLaT had a shorter healing time, better overall cosmetic outcome, and higher quality of life scores after surgery.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between obesity, executive functions, and body image in a nonclinical population from southern Italy. The results suggest that better executive functioning predicts a decrease in BMI, partially due to a reduction in avoidance behaviors.

Summary: A study found that overweight and obesity increased among 3- and 4-year-old children in Sweden during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was especially pronounced in children attending child health centers in lower socioeconomic areas. It highlights the need for efforts to prevent childhood obesity, particularly in disadvantaged areas, due to the potential negative impact of the pandemic on health behaviors in Swedish preschool children.

Summary: This study identified a variant in the CYB5A gene that is enriched in Southwest American Indian individuals and associated with increased BMI. Functional analysis showed that this variant decreased luciferase expression and correlated with decreased skeletal muscle CYB5A expression. Another haplotype including this variant was found mainly in SWAI individuals and associated with increased BMI and decreased CYB5A expression, while the most common haplotype in other ethnic groups was associated with lower BMI and higher energy expenditure.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the BMI threshold for preventing hypertension and investigate the influence of BMI changes on hypertension development. The results showed that the risk of developing hypertension increased significantly when baseline BMI exceeded 20, and the annual change in BMI was positively correlated with hypertension development. These findings underscore the importance of maintaining body weight in preventing hypertension.
