Summary: The combined treatment of ethephon and sulfur improved the antioxidant system and reduced oxidative stress under salt stress, enhancing chloroplast development and photosynthetic performance. It also decreased ABA accumulation in guard cells, leading to increased stomatal conductance. Ethylene and sulfur play a role in regulating stomatal conductance and photosynthetic efficiency under salt stress.

Summary: As an emerging clean and efficient technology, atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) shows great potential for decontamination of chemical warfare agents (CWAs). This study demonstrates the use of APPJ for the degradation of sulfur mustard (HD) and its surrogate 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (2-CEES) in water, achieving a degradation efficiency of 100% after 5 or 6 minutes of plasma treatment. The degradation products were found to be non-toxic alcohols or low toxic sulfones, which can be further degraded into small molecules (HCl, SO2, or CO2) through additional plasma treatment. The identification of reactive species (OH, 1O2, and H2O2) provides insight into the degradation process of 2-CEES in water.

Summary: This study established sensitive and convenient detection methods for amino alcohol, which are important for identifying nitrogen mustard exposure in forensic analysis. The efficiency of the method was improved by optimizing sample preparation conditions and the GC-MS/MS method. The developed method showed good validation results in plasma and urine samples, with a detection limit of 1.0 ng mL-1.

Summary: A novel strategy using pulsed-driven cold plasma jet was proposed for the removal of sulfur mustard surrogate. Under optimal conditions, the plasma treatment achieved high degradation fraction and the degradation products turned into gas products. Short-lived excited species and long-lived reactive species played an important role in the oxidation and mineralization process. This work shed light on the portable design of cold plasma jet for the detoxification of chemical warfare agents.

Summary: Formulating plant extracts in phospholipid vesicles is a promising strategy to overcome challenges like poor solubility, instability, low skin permeation, and short retention time. In this study, a hydro-ethanolic extract was prepared from Ceratonia siliqua ripe pods, showing antioxidant properties due to the presence of active compounds. Liposomes were used to improve the extract's applicability, characterized by small size, negative charge, high entrapment efficiency, and biocompatibility. The extract demonstrated antioxidant activity by scavenging free radicals, reducing ferric ions, and protecting skin cells from oxidative damage.

Summary: This study reveals the impact of sowing time and changing field temperature on the biochemical mechanisms of Indian mustard. Late sowing causes oxidative stress and affects the regulation of antioxidant enzyme activity, soluble sugars, and amino acids. Late sowing also influences the fatty acid levels and seed quality of mustard.

Summary: This study demonstrates the importance of anthocyanin accumulation in the resistance of Indian mustard to S. sclerotiorum. The resistant genotype shows higher anthocyanin accumulation, lower lipid peroxidation rate, and a strong, efficient, and timely regulated antioxidant system, which limit pathogen colonization and disease development.

Summary: Clinical mNGS improves etiology diagnosis of respiratory infections but brings new challenges. This study evaluated mNGS data and assessed diagnostic strengths of different specimen types. BALF showed higher positive predictive values for diagnosing non-mycobacterium, NTM, and Aspergillus infections. Lung tissues and sputum were acceptable for diagnosing MTB. Significant taxonomy differences were found in BALF specimens and unique microbiome compositions were found in BALF specimens of tumor patients. The developed bioinformatic pipeline showed comparative diagnostic strength with clinical microbiological diagnosis.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the extract of Taraxacum syriacum roots has dose-dependent ameliorative effects against acetaminophen-induced oxidative damage in the liver and kidney due to its free radical scavenging and antioxidant properties. Furthermore, the extract can reduce tissue pathological damages and improve hepatic and renal function biochemical markers after treatment. The overall efficacy of the TS extract at a dose of 200 mg/kg is comparable to that of N-acetylcysteine.

Summary: The effects of nicotine and cigarette smoke on various diseases, including COVID-19 infection, are being discussed. Current data suggests that smokers have a higher risk of COVID-19 infection due to the overexpression of viral entry receptors. However, epidemiological reports indicate a lower incidence of COVID-19 in smokers. Nicotine has dual effects, both inflammatory and anti-inflammatory. The study investigates the effect of nicotine on various cells involved in COVID-19 infection.

Summary: Widespread public vaccination is essential for ensuring health and preventing deaths, and the development of the COVID-19 vaccine exemplifies this. Vaccine development is a complex process that requires firm-level capabilities, infrastructure, long-term planning, and stable policies. With the global demand for vaccines during the pandemic, the national capability to produce vaccines is crucial. This paper examines factors at the firm and policy levels that influence the COVID-19 vaccine development process in Iran, drawing lessons for vaccine development in developing countries.
