Summary: The survival and death prognostic factors of SSc patients have varied during the past decades. This study aimed to update the 5- and 10-year survival rates of Italian SSc patients diagnosed after 2009 and identify prognostic factors. The results showed that in the past decade, SSc patients reached similar mortality rates as the Italian general population. Male gender, diffuse cutaneous involvement, comorbidities, and PAH with or without ILD were identified as the main poor prognostic factors.

Summary: The study found that changes in body fat percentage and availability of oral food intake have a significant impact on survival duration in ALS patients. Higher body fat percentage and availability of oral food intake are prognostic factors for survival in ALS compared to other factors.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to explore the characteristics of patients with ALS in the Midwest. The study found that older age at onset and more frequent bulbar onset were prominent features among ALS patients in the Midwest. Furthermore, the study highlighted the need for prospective cohort studies with more clinical and functional data to better characterize ALS in the Midwest, veterans, and non-clinic populations, and to optimize care.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and prognostic burden of heart involvement in SSc patients. The results showed that SSc-related cardiac involvement was associated with an increased risk of death, and diffuse SSc subtype and female sex were identified as risk factors. Further analysis should assess the potential impact of treatment on various cardiac outcomes.

Summary: The study evaluated survival rates and short-term impact of i.v. prostanoids on SSc-PAH patients. Significant improvements in clinical and haemodynamic parameters were observed with i.v. prostanoid therapy. However, survival remains poor and risk scoring at baseline and during therapy can improve prognostication.

Summary: The influence of environmental factors, including lifestyle, nutrition, and vitamin deficiencies, on autoimmune diseases is being investigated. This review discusses the impact of these factors on the development and course of diseases such as MS, SLE, and AA. Low vitamin D levels are commonly associated with these diseases, but its role in SLE is still unclear.

Summary: This study evaluated mouth opening (MO) in systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients and found that MO can predict disease severity and survival. Most SSc patients had stable MO, but diffuse cutaneous SSc (dcSSc) patients with high but decreasing MO were at risk of poor survival and ILD.

Summary: Systemic sclerosis is often associated with dysphagia and esophageal dysmotility. This study evaluated the association between dysphagia and esophageal dysmotility in patients with systemic sclerosis and identified risk factors. The results showed that dysphagia was associated with autoantibody positivity and older age, while there were no identified risk factors for esophageal dysmotility. No correlation was found between dysphagia and esophageal dysmotility.

Summary: Despite recent therapeutical advances, gastric adenocarcinoma remains associated with a poor long-term survival. Diagnosis is often made at advanced stages, affecting prognosis. Factors such as tumor microenvironment, patient ethnicity, and therapeutic strategy play a role in patient outcome. This study aims to review existing knowledge on prognostic factors in gastric adenocarcinoma.

Summary: This study evaluated the epidemiology, manifestations, serology, comorbidities, and survival among systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients with and without sarcoidosis. The results showed that sarcoidosis in SSc patients is rare but occurs more frequently than in the general population. SSc-sarcoidosis patients are more likely to have lung, lymph node, joint, skin, and liver involvement, and have a higher risk of stroke, without significant differences in survival.

Summary: This study aimed to construct a nomogram model to predict the overall survival rate (OS) of patients with triple-positive breast cancer (TPBC) by comparing the clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic influences of patients in China and the United States. The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and patients from Xijing Hospital were used for the study. Cox multifactorial analysis showed that age, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, M-stage, T-stage, N-stage, and the mode of surgery were all independent risk factors. The nomogram model had a high C-index and reliable performance in both the training and validation cohorts, suggesting it can be a useful clinical decision support tool.

Summary: This study investigated the correlation between systemic inflammatory response and long-term outcomes in gastric cancer patients and identified potential markers in stage II/III patients. The study found that maximum serum C-reactive protein (CRPmax) was an independent prognostic factor for overall survival and relapse-free survival, while maximum white blood cell count (WBCmax) and infectious complications were not. These findings suggest that CRPmax could be a promising prognostic indicator for stage II/III gastric cancer patients undergoing curative resection.

Summary: Patients with Behcet's disease have a higher risk of blindness and vision-threatening ocular comorbidities compared to the general population. Males are at a higher risk of blindness due to greater severity rather than a lower incidence of uveitis. The risk of uveitis and blindness decreases with higher age at BD diagnosis.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the incidence rate and risk factors of bloodstream infection (BSI) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) exposed to medium to high doses of glucocorticoids. The results showed that the 1-year incidence rate of BSI was significantly higher in SLE patients receiving prolonged medium-to-high-dose glucocorticoids compared to the general SLE population. Severe disease activity and high-dose glucocorticoid treatment were identified as risk factors for BSI.

Summary: This study investigated the longitudinal changes and clinical significance of computer-aided quantitative scores from high-resolution CT (HRCT) images in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies-related interstitial lung disease (IIMs-ILD). The results showed that QILD scores were related to lung function, ILD progression, and prognosis, with UIP patterns being associated with a higher risk of QILD progression. These findings suggest that QILD scores may serve as potential imaging biomarkers in IIMs-ILD.

Summary: The study investigated the diagnostic performance of band intensity (BI) cut-offs adjusted by a positive control band (PCB) in a line-blot assay (LBA) for myositis-related autoantibodies (MRAs). Sera from 153 idiopathic inflammatory myositis (IIM) patients and 79 healthy controls were tested. The study found that adjusting BI using PCB improved the diagnostic performance of the LBA, and an aBI cut-off value of > 20 was optimal for IIM diagnosis using the EUROLINE LBA panel.

Summary: The choice of first-line biologic or targeted synthetic drug treatment in seropositive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients can affect the risk of herpes zoster (HZ). Tofacitinib carries a higher risk of HZ compared to other drugs, while infliximab and adalimumab also increase the overall HZ risk.
