Summary: The study investigated the incidence and risk factors for allergic-like hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) to gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs). The results showed that the rates of acute HSRs and delayed HSRs were 0.4% and 0.04%, respectively. Lack of premedication, repeated exposures to problematic GBCAs, and a history of HSRs to iodinated contrast media and GBCAs were identified as risk factors for HSRs to GBCAs.

Summary: The study on adverse reactions after receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine showed that different allergic histories may affect the severity of fatigue, headache, joint pain, and fever post-vaccination. These findings are important for guiding the vaccination of individuals with different allergy histories.

Summary: Managing food allergies in child care centers and schools is controversial and evidence-based guidance is needed. Conditional recommendations include implementing allergy training and action plans, using epinephrine for suspected anaphylaxis, stocking unassigned epinephrine autoinjectors, and not implementing site-wide food prohibitions or allergen-restricted zones. Further research is needed to determine the most beneficial interventions.

Summary: In the era of the novel coronavirus epidemics, COVID-19 vaccines have been recognized as one of the most effective public health interventions to control the pandemic. However, severe allergic reactions can occur after vaccinations, with potential allergenic/immunogenic excipients such as PEG and polysorbate 80 in COVID-19 vaccines. Contraindications to vaccination include a history of severe allergic reactions to the vaccine or proven hypersensitivity to a vaccine component.

Summary: Food hypersensitivity is increasing, and enterocytes are now recognized to play a role not only in nutrient absorption, but also in immune responses. Enterocytes are crucial for maintaining oral tolerance and food hypersensitivity.

Summary: The study investigated perioperative allergic reactions among Chinese anesthesiologists, finding that such reactions are common but patients are rarely referred for further investigation by allergy specialists. There is variation in institutional support and management practices for perioperative allergic reactions. More standardized recommendations based on Chinese patient data are needed.

Summary: Allergic disorders are increasing in young people and are associated with significant disease burden. The altered immune system response in the gut is recognized as a relevant step in the pathogenesis of these disorders. Allergic disorders have a high prevalence in gastrointestinal autoimmune diseases, and comprehensive care for autoimmune gastrointestinal disorders should include evaluation and treatment of allergic disorders.

Summary: The case suggests that omalizumab is a good candidate for the management of severe allergic transfusion reactions, especially in cases of platelet-induced anaphylaxis. Early administration of omalizumab prior to transfusion may help prevent anaphylactic reactions, allowing patients to continue receiving necessary blood transfusions.

Summary: The majority of patients evaluated at Massachusetts General Hospital by Allergy/Immunology safely received subsequent anesthesia after comprehensive evaluation. Among the patients, antibiotics (especially cefazolin) were the most common culprits among those who tested positive, accounting for 24%. An elevated baseline tryptase level was associated with an increased risk of recurrent perioperative allergic reactions.

Summary: Concerns about allergic reactions to mRNA COVID-19 vaccines were addressed by a study, which found a low rate of immediate allergic reactions in patients with a history of drug allergy or other allergic disorders. The majority of patients with allergies can safely receive the mRNA vaccine.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the health-related quality of life (QoL) and depression severity among patients presenting in a tertiary care allergy center. The study found a possible correlation between allergies, particularly insect venom, food/food additives, and drugs, as well as urticaria, with a reduced QoL and a higher depression rate.

Summary: Immunotherapy for food allergy is promising, but adverse events and their severity during treatment are not standardized. This study developed a revised grading scale to categorize and assess adverse allergic reactions in food allergy clinical trials. The use of this revised scale would allow for better data aggregation and safety comparisons.

Summary: The study found that prenatal exposure to artificial food color additives (AFCAs) may cause neurobehavioral issues in offspring rats, but does not directly impact spatial learning and memory. Additionally, AFCAs may lead to significant reduction in NR2A and NR2B protein levels in offspring rats, while alpha 7 nAChR levels remain unchanged.

The results suggest that increased oxidative stress and decreased antioxidative defense system play a role in the etiopathogenesis of the disease.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the daily energy and nutrient intake as well as the obesity status of children and adolescents with ADHD. The results showed a high prevalence of overweight and obesity in both the ADHD and control groups, with a high fat intake and sufficient intake of folic acid and thiamine. Sodium intake was higher than recommended, and folic acid and water intake were lower in children with ADHD.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of sodium benzoate on learning and neurobehavior in prepubertal rats. The results showed that administration of the acceptable daily intake dose of sodium benzoate caused increased anxiety and decreased motivation, while administration of the no observed adverse effect level dose increased specific receptor levels. These findings suggest that consumption of sodium benzoate during childhood may affect hippocampal functions related to learning and neurobehavior.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the relationship between attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and the consumption of processed meat products and snacks. The results show that children with ADHD consume more processed meat products, milk-based desserts, and chocolate-sweets than their healthy peers. There is also a positive correlation between ADHD symptom scores and the consumption of all snacks, chocolate-sweets, sujuk, chocolate, jelly beans, sweets, cakes, and chocolate spread.

Summary: The study suggests that exposure to synthetic food colorings during the intrauterine period may lead to deterioration of tissue structure in the salivary glands in adulthood, thereby increasing susceptibility to chronic illnesses such as malignancy and chronic inflammation. Pregnant women are advised to pay attention to nutrition in terms of foods containing synthetic colorings.
