Summary: This study evaluated the risk of QT prolongation for the combination of verinurad and allopurinol through a thorough QT/QTc study. The results showed that verinurad and allopurinol treatment did not induce QTcF prolongation at the highest clinically relevant exposures, as the effect on Delta Delta QTcF was below the regulatory concern threshold. The study used a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, three-period, crossover design and involved 24 healthy volunteers.

Summary: The article introduces two new methods for estimating time-matched treatment effects under the MVN model, with the covariance structure being utilized to construct powerful tests for QT/QTc prolongation. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed estimators have smaller mean square error and the tests have high power to control the type I error rate.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine on electrocardiographic measures and sudden cardiac death. The results showed that current use of these drugs was associated with an increased QTc-interval duration and a higher risk of sudden cardiac death. Therefore, cardiotoxicity is a strong argument against using these drugs to treat COVID-19 infections, in addition to the controversial efficacy against the virus.

Summary: This study conducted semi-structured interviews with patients with advanced iPD and identified factors that influence their perception of safety. In addition to the manifestation of the disease, the study identified 10 other domains related to establishing safety in patients with advanced iPD. The findings suggest that clinicians and policy makers should consider a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to assessing and improving patients' safety, taking into account the enablers and barriers identified in this study.

Summary: This study found that enarodustat had no clinically relevant effect on cardiac repolarization, PR interval, or QRS duration. The ECG waveforms did not show any new clinically relevant morphological changes. These results suggest that enarodustat is unlikely to cause adverse cardiac effects in healthy subjects.

Summary: This study found that older age, end-stage renal disease, underlying cardiovascular disease, potential virus mediated cardiac injury, and drugs like hydroxychloroquine/azithromycin contribute to QTc prolongation in COVID-19 patients. The role of ACE inhibitors in preventing QTc prolongation in COVID-19 patients needs further study. Ventricular arrhythmias and mortality were not associated with QTc prolongation in COVID-19 patients.

Summary: The study proposed a screening strategy based on a Polyscore of seven risk markers and conducted a prospective validation in a population-based survey in Germany. It assessed mortality risk in the elderly general population through short-term non-invasive recordings, particularly effective for those aged 60-74 years.

Summary: This study evaluated the patency of infarct related artery before PPCI in TSTEMI patients and compared the outcomes of TSTEMI and STEMI patients during a prolonged follow-up. The results showed a relatively high incidence of occluded IRA in TSTEMI patients, but there was no significant difference in overall survival during the median follow-up period.

Summary: This study utilized a technology based on singular value decomposition and separation of QRS complex components to investigate the impact of different components on QRS duration in females and males. Results showed that females had a larger proportion of the first component of the QRS complex, while males had a larger proportion of the second component, and males also exhibited larger components attributable to localized depolarization sequence abnormalities.

Summary: This study analyzed a large cohort of ICD patients and control patients to determine the predictive value of ECG markers, with pathological Q waves identified as a strong predictor of ICD benefit in primary prophylactic ICD patients. Excess mortality among patients with Q waves seems to be due to arrhythmic death, which can be prevented by ICD.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether the speed of QT adaptation to heart rate changes is driven by time or by the number of cardiac cycles, whether QT interval adaptation speed is the same during heart rate acceleration and deceleration, and whether the characteristics of QT/RR hysteresis are related to age and sex. The results showed that the response of QT/RR hysteresis appears to be driven by absolute time rather than the number of cardiac cycles. The speed of QT/RR hysteresis was found to decrease with increasing age, while the duration of individually rate corrected QTc interval was found to increase with age. Female individuals had faster QT/RR hysteresis speed compared to males.

Summary: This study examined the predictive value of heart rate variability triangular index (HRVI) in hemodialysis patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), finding a non-linear association between HRVI and cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in this population. The results suggest that HRVI may play a crucial role in risk assessment for hemodialysis patients with AF, independent of known risk scores.
