Summary: The current approach to flexor tendon injuries includes rehabilitation protocols, appropriate suturing techniques, lubricants, and growth factors. This study focuses on testing the efficacy of a lubricating gel, Dynavisc(R), in preventing postoperative adhesions and improving functional results in acute injuries of the intrasynovial flexor tendons. Compared to the control group, the group treated with Dynavisc(R) showed significantly fewer adhesions and a better tendon structure. These findings indicate the potential of Dynavisc(R) in preventing adhesions and promoting tendon regeneration.

Summary: There is still no study in Malaysia regarding the preference and adherence to current evidence in flexor tendon repair. A survey conducted during an orthopaedic meeting revealed that the Modified Kessler technique was the preferred method, with the majority using 4-strand core strands and Prolene sutures. In terms of rehabilitation, early passive motion was the preferred choice.

Summary: The study utilized smartphones to predict anemia and screen for hemoglobin concentration in patients. Results showed varying accuracy and specificity at different transfusion thresholds, influenced by factors such as image quality and HBl values. Further improvements in image quality and computational corrections can enhance hemoglobin estimates.

Summary: The Bubbler breathalyzer is more predictive of lower respiratory tract involvement and less invasive than alternatives when testing for SARS-CoV-2; samples tested using the Bubbler are threefold more enriched for SARS-CoV-2 RNA than tongue swabs, indicating direct sampling of virus particles; the Bubbler has been shown to have the potential for rapid diagnosis in large batches of mixed samples in the medical field.

Summary: Camptodactyly-arthropathy-coxa vara-pericarditis (CACP) syndrome is characterized by joint arthropathy and is caused by the absence of lubricin (proteoglycan 4-PRG4). This study used Prg4-deficient mice as a model to investigate the effects of intra-articular injection of recombinant human PRG4 (rhPRG4) on gait changes and mitochondrial dyscrasia. The results showed that rhPRG4 injection improved gait alterations and reduced caspase-3 activation in the cartilage of the mice. RNA-Seq analysis also revealed upregulation of genes involved in cytoskeletal stabilization. This suggests that IA rhPRG4 may mitigate chondrocyte mitochondrial dyscrasias associated with CACP.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of using microMend to close simple lacerations in the ED. The results showed that microMend closure provided good cosmetic results, with high levels of satisfaction from both patients and providers, but further randomized trials are needed to compare microMend with other wound closure products.
