Summary: This study retrospectively evaluated patient and tumor characteristics, treatment, and their impact on survival in patients with high-grade osteosarcoma experiencing a solitary pulmonary relapse at first recurrence. The results showed that approximately 50% of patients remain alive 5 years after the first relapse, while only about 1/3 of patients remain disease-free. Complete surgical resection of the lesion is essential for long-term survival, while relapse chemotherapy does not seem to improve survival.

Summary: The clinical outcome of peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients with failed kidney allograft is similar to other PD patients. However, patients who had PD before kidney transplant and then returned to PD after allograft failure showed increased peritoneal transport parameters.

Summary: This study compared the clinical outcomes of recycled autograft and allograft in high-grade osteosarcoma patients with pathological fracture undergoing biological reconstruction. The results showed comparable results in terms of treatment efficacy, union time, complication rate, and graft survival between the two groups.

Summary: This study compares surgical techniques used in conversion total knee arthroplasty (cTKA) after early failure of large osteochondral allograft joint replacement and evaluates postoperative patient reported outcomes measures (PROMs) and satisfaction scores compared to a primary total knee arthroplasty (pTKA) cohort. The results showed that cTKA had similar postoperative improvement as pTKA, but lower patient-reported satisfaction was associated with lower post-operative KOOS-JR scores.

Summary: This study evaluated the long-term outcomes of heart transplants preserved using the Organ Care System (OCS). The results showed that the survival rate and incidence of graft-related complications in patients with OCS-preserved grafts were comparable to those with grafts preserved using standard cold storage.

Summary: This study demonstrates that proton therapy abroad for uveal melanoma is effective in controlling tumors and preserving eyes, with 94% of patients showing controlled tumors and 81% preserving their eyes after five years. However, around 30% of patients experienced cancer spread beyond the eye, leading to blindness or severe visual impairment in 79% of patients after proton therapy. Factors such as tumor size, localization, and proton therapy dose are important for the risk of decline in visual acuity.

Summary: Horizontal supraglottic laryngectomy provides a treatment option for laryngeal cancer confined to the supraglottis with the goal of preserving laryngeal functions. The use of a chimeric anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap for reconstruction after this procedure showed successful outcomes in restoring laryngeal functions and preventing chronic aspiration.

Summary: The study compared cryoablation-assisted joint-sparing surgery and conventional joint arthroplasty for patients with osteosarcoma, showing that in terms of oncological outcomes, functional recovery, and primary reconstruction survival, the joint preservation group had similar or better results compared to the joint arthroplasty group. Patients in the joint preservation group had less knee range of motion and lower MSTS scores at one year postoperatively but no significant differences were found at three and five years. Patients in the joint arthroplasty group tended to have more complications.

Summary: This study compared pediatric heart transplant recipients with donor hearts preserved using the OCS system and cold storage method. The OCS group had significantly shorter median total ischemic time, with comparable outcomes in terms of primary graft, renal or hepatic failure, graft function, rejection occurrence, and one-year survival rate compared to the control group.

Summary: Based on analysis of the UNOS database, simultaneous liver-kidney transplantation (SLKT) poses a higher risk of kidney allograft failure (KF) for patients with an end-stage liver disease (MELD) score of >= 25, compared to kidney transplant after liver transplant (KALT). With the establishment of the Safety Net, KALT may offer an opportunity to improve kidney outcomes for patients with an MELD >= 25.

Summary: The study demonstrated that knee laxity and functional knee outcome after contralateral ACL reconstruction are comparable to those after primary ACL reconstruction. It is important for clinicians to inform patients about their expectations after contralateral ACL reconstruction. This study indicates that outcomes after contralateral ACL reconstruction in terms of knee laxity and functional knee outcome are predictable and likely to be comparable to those after primary ACL reconstruction.

Summary: This study describes the outcomes of hip reconstruction in paediatric patients using a vascularized fibular flap combined with a radius allograft. The results suggest that this technique is a safe and effective option for children who have undergone femoral head tumor resection.

Summary: This meta-analysis summarizes research findings on the correlation between clinicopathological characteristics and post-surgery survival outcomes in non-metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients. Several clinicopathological characteristics were associated with poor survival outcomes, while no features were predictive for late recurrence.

Summary: Malignant pleural mesothelioma is an aggressive asbestos-related tumor with poor prognosis. Multimodality treatment is currently the standard therapy, and the goal of surgery is to achieve complete resection. The treatment for recurrent MPM has not been established, and the role of surgery in this context is still controversial.
