Summary: The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of 3-mm high abutments with different shapes (cylindrical abutment vs. wide abutment) on marginal bone-level changes. The results showed that the cylindrical abutment group exhibited less bone remodeling and bone loss than the wide abutment group, as well as reduced bleeding on probing. Therefore, abutment shape has a significant influence on marginal bone-level changes during the first 12 months.

Summary: This study analyzed the levels of peri-implant marginal bone loss and metalloproteinase-8 in different timeframes, finding a correlation between the two. Higher bone loss rates were associated with elevated metalloproteinase-8 levels, serving as predictive indicators for peri-implant marginal bone loss progression.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the marginal gingival level and the width/height (W/H) ratio between two different profile configurations in single implant-supported restorations at molar sites. The results showed that a restorative emergence profile designed based on the W/H ratio significantly reduced gingival margin recession, and an emergence angle of 32.4 degrees exhibited better behavior in maintaining the gingival margin.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 7 randomized controlled trials comparing immediate and delayed loading of 2-implant mandibular overdentures showed no significant statistical difference in terms of implant failure rate and marginal bone loss between the two loading protocols.

Summary: The study compared the peri-implant hard tissue changes between definitive abutment placed at the same time of implant surgery and healing abutment disconnected and reconnected three times. It was found that there was no significant difference in bone loss between the two groups over the 12-month follow-up period, suggesting that both methods are equally effective in maintaining peri-implant bone levels.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis found that there is a significantly enhanced risk of peri-implant marginal bone loss with the increased number of cigarettes smoked per day. The results suggest that the risk of marginal bone loss steadily increases as daily smoking increases.

Summary: The long-term effectiveness of the GBR procedure in correcting small peri-implant bone dehiscence using xenogeneic deproteinized bovine bone mineral and xenogeneic native bilayer collagen membrane was evaluated. The study concluded that the use of these materials in the GBR procedure can effectively correct small peri-implant bone dehiscence.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between early bone remodeling, marginal bone loss (MBL) progression, and the concentration of a-MMP-8 in peri-implant sulcular fluid, and the incidence of peri-implantitis. The results suggest that early bone remodeling is not indicative of the subsequent onset of peri-implantitis, while high levels of a-MMP-8 at 6 months after loading can predict peri-implantitis.

Summary: This study compared the marginal bone loss and bone-implant interface contact between implant-retaining overdentures and implant-supported fixed prostheses. The results showed that the overdenture group had higher bone loss, while the fixed prosthesis group had better bone-implant interface contact.

Summary: This review aimed to explore the possible link between occlusal overload and peri-implant bone loss. The analysis of clinical studies showed a positive correlation between overload and crestal bone loss in seven included studies. However, the overall risk of bias in the included studies was moderate to serious, suggesting the need for further investigation using new digital tools.

Summary: The aim of this systematic review is to summarize current knowledge on the use of biomarkers extracted from peri-implant crevicular fluid (PICF) as predictors of peri-implant bone loss (BL). A total of 158 entries were initially found, and after a full-text review and assessment of eligibility criteria, nine articles were selected. According to the review, several inflammatory biomarkers harvested from PICF seem to be correlated with peri-implant bone loss and may aid in diagnosing peri-implantitis early. MiRNA expression has shown predictive potential for peri-implant bone loss and may be useful for preventive and therapeutic purposes in implant dentistry.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the 5-year results of implants supporting fixed full-arch metal-ceramic restorations in patients who lost their teeth due to severe periodontal disease. The study found that the majority of implants with internal conical connection did not experience significant bone loss after 5 years. Abutment height and implant diameter were found to be associated with marginal bone level.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of abutments with chromium nitride/niobium nitride coatings (superlattice) to traditional machined surface on peri-implant tissue. The results showed no statistically significant differences between the superlattice abutment and the machined abutment after a 6-month observational period. Further research and clinical studies are needed to investigate the surface properties of the novel abutments' superlattice coating and its effect on oral tissues.

Summary: This study analyzed the occlusal change in posterior implant-supported single crowns over a 5-year period and examined the association between relative occlusal force (ROF) and peri-implant bone level. The results showed significant changes in the ROF of posterior implant-supported single crowns during the follow-up period. However, the association between ROF and peri-implant bone level had limited clinical significance.
