Summary: The traditional dietary assessment tools for determining achievement of cholesterol-lowering targets are time consuming. This study found that the Healthy Eating Assessment Tool (HEAT), a simplified dietary assessment tool, is associated with markers of adiposity and lipid variables. The HEAT may be a more useful and simplified way of assessing and tracking broader dietary goals in clinical practice.

Summary: The study found that during pregnancy, most women either made changes to their diets or maintained their existing eating behaviors. The majority of women did not try or were unwilling to try specific dietary patterns, mainly due to concerns about not eating a balanced diet, difficulty in implementation without family support, and expense.

Summary: The metabolic benefits of time-restricted eating (TRE) in humans are statistically significant but not clinically relevant. This study compared the effects of a TRE regimen with a time-unrestricted (TUE) regimen on patients with obesity. The results show that TRE led to a slightly greater weight loss compared to TUE, but there were no significant differences in other variables. The changes in gut microbiota composition induced by TRE were of uncertain clinical significance.

Summary: Recent epidemiological studies have shown a decrease in adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MedDiet). A prospective cohort study was conducted to evaluate changes in individual determinants of MedDiet adherence over time. The study reveals an overall decrease in MedDiet adherence, highlighting the need for better dietary interventions.

Summary: The study found that higher consumption of high-fiber grain products and milk, as well as a higher diet quality, were associated with lower caries experience. On the other hand, higher consumption of potatoes and emotional overeating were associated with higher caries experience. In addition, higher snacking frequency, desire to drink, slowness in eating, and food fussiness were associated with higher caries experience, while enjoyment of food and higher diet quality were associated with lower caries experience.

Summary: This study found that maternal socio-economic status, children's screen time, and childcare arrangements are associated with eating behaviours in 5-year-old children. Specifically, mothers with lower socio-economic status and children with higher screen time tend to have a greater desire to drink, while childcare exposure is associated with higher scores for the desire to drink.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between pre-gestational carbohydrate quality index (CQI) and the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The study found that the overall quality of carbohydrates was not significantly associated with the development of GDM, but high-quality and high-intake carbohydrates were associated with a lower incidence of GDM. Further studies are needed to overcome the limitations of the study.

Summary: Several studies have analyzed the association between all-cause mortality and various risk factors, particularly modifiable ones like smoking, diet, and exercise, for the purpose of developing public health preventive strategies. However, specific analysis of predictors for premature and late mortality is necessary to provide more accurate recommendations. This study followed a cohort of 20,272 university graduates with a wide age range for a median of 12 years. The results showed that physical activity was the strongest independent predictor of mortality at any age, associated with reduced risk of total, premature, and late mortality.

Summary: The study examines the associations between baseline levels of plasma amino acids and subsequent risk of peripheral artery disease (PAD). It also investigates the potential modifying effect of a nutritional intervention with the Mediterranean diet. The findings suggest that certain amino acids and their pathways may serve as biomarkers for PAD risk, and the Mediterranean diet supplemented with olive oil offers a protective effect against PAD.
