Summary: This study presents a transformer-based seizure prediction model that extracts time-frequency characteristics of EEG signals and solves the length limitations in deep learning models by fusing and classifying the features. Experimental results show that the model improves the accuracy of seizure prediction.

Summary: The study proposes an automatic epileptic seizure detection system based on a long short-term memory network, which achieves high sensitivity and low false positive rate, and is simple and effective. The convergence analysis shows that the proposed model has reliability and accuracy in detecting epileptic seizures.

Summary: Reflex seizures (RSs) are epileptic events consistently induced by specific triggers, and the genetic background is complex and potentially polygenic. This article describes individuals with reflex seizures as the predominant symptom, where pathogenic and likely pathogenic variants were identified in the CACNA1A, GNAO1, and NOVA2 genes. Rare monogenic epilepsies associated with RSs are also summarized.

Summary: Reflex seizures are epileptic events that are consistently elicited in response to specific stimuli or activities, with various triggers such as flashing lights and reading. Treatment involves antiseizure medication, lifestyle modifications, and occasionally surgical intervention. High clinical suspicion and thorough history taking are crucial in identifying reflex triggers in epilepsy patients.

Summary: This study investigates the detailed characteristics of startle-induced epileptic spasms and explores the brain regions where these spasms originate. The findings suggest that patients with startle-induced epileptic spasms typically have brain lesions and show drug resistance, and the frontal cortex is often the origin of these spasms.

Summary: Compared to the traditional definition, the new definition of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) has three major changes: onset prior to 18 years, inclusion of tonic seizures, and presence of generalized slow spikewaves (SSW) and/or generalized paroxysmal fast activity (GPFA) on EEG. This exploratory study examined the practical implications and potential limitations of the new LGS definition based on a large cohort of patients.

Summary: Epilepsy is a common condition characterized by recurrent, unpredictable seizures. The current method of monitoring with EEG is time-consuming, uncomfortable, and sometimes ineffective for patients. Limited options for data collection and training machine-learning models exist due to restricted hospital resources and hardware/software specifications. This mini-review looks at the current patient journey and suggests opportunities for improving data reliability through multi-modal data fusion. Further research is needed to advance brain monitoring solutions towards portable, reliable devices that offer patient comfort, perform ultra-long-term monitoring, and expedite the diagnosis process.

Summary: Magnetic resonance-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRLiTT) has gained popularity for treating temporal lobe epilepsy. This pilot study investigated the predictive value of pre- and post-MRLiTT epileptiform discharges (EDs) on intraoperative electrocorticography (iECoG) for seizure outcomes in patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE). The study found that a reduction in ED frequency during MRLiTT may potentially predict seizure outcomes. Larger prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings and evaluate the utility of iECoG during MRLiTT.

Summary: Accurate detection of seizure types is crucial for effective treatment and management of epilepsy. This research introduces a novel feature fusion approach based on VMD to detect different types of seizures. Experimental results show that VMD performs well in distinguishing seizure types, and RSZM can effectively recognize seizure types from the first few seconds of ictal EEG. The fusion of RSZM with other features further improves the accuracy.

Summary: Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have a higher prevalence of epilepsy, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. Recurrence rate after the first nonfebrile seizure in this population is 70.9%, with a higher rate for generalized convulsions compared to behavioral arrest seizures. Abnormal EEG is a strong predictor of seizure recurrence, even with a normal EEG, the recurrence rate for generalized convulsions remains high.
