Summary: Important discoveries have been made in the field of neuroimmunology, specifically regarding the role of meninges in brain infection and cognitive disorders. This review discusses the protective role of meningeal layers in the central nervous system against various infections and explores the neurological consequences of meningeal infections in both neonates and adults. The aim is to provide an integrated view of meningeal immune regulations and their impact on CNS infections and neurological outcomes.

Summary: Tuberculosis meningitis (TBM) occurs when Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria invade the meninges, leading to inflammation. Oxidative stress, caused by reactive oxygen species, plays a significant role in TBM by impairing the body's defense mechanisms. Diabetes mellitus (DM) increases susceptibility to TBM due to heightened oxidative stress. This review summarizes the role of oxidative stress in TBM and DM, and discusses potential therapeutic approaches.

Summary: This article reviews the efficacy of emerging technologies in the diagnosis and management of tuberculous meningitis (TBM). Advanced diagnostic technologies like targeted gene sequencing, real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), miRNA assays, and metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) offer promising avenues for early TBM detection. Machine learning algorithms can enhance diagnostic accuracy and guide treatment strategies. However, these emerging technologies still face challenges in clinical implementation.

Summary: This review evaluated the clinical evidence for the use of daptomycin in acute bacterial meningitis in both pediatric and adult patients. The results suggest that daptomycin could be a safe and effective alternative for the treatment of meningitis caused by Gram-positive bacteria. However, further research is needed to establish the optimal dosing regimen, duration of therapy, and place in therapy for the management of meningitis.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed 36 patients with meningeal tuberculosis in Buenos Aires from 2005 to 2017, revealing that most patients presented with early symptoms such as fever, altered consciousness, and headache. Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in cerebrospinal fluid plays a key role in early diagnosis, and MRI is crucial for identifying disease involvement and guiding concurrent treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to assess patients' concerns about the effect of lockdown on their treatments. Through telephone interviews, it was found that half of the patients and/or their caregivers had health-related concerns during the lockdown, with difficulties in connecting with their treating neurologists being the primary issue. Additionally, there were delays and difficulties in accessing emergency care. However, telemedicine received high satisfaction rates from the patients.

Summary: Primary CNS Vasculitis (PCNSV) is a rare inflammatory disorder that affects the blood vessels of the central nervous system. This study aimed to identify factors associated with the 2-year outcome in patients with PCNSV. The study included 82 biopsy and/or angiographically proven PCNSV cases, and observed clinical, imaging, and histopathologic findings, as well as treatment and functional outcomes. The study found that myelitis and longer duration of illness before diagnosis were associated with poorer outcomes, and hemorrhages on SWI sequence of MRI might be a sensitive imaging marker.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate multiple domains of social cognition in Indian Parkinson's disease patients using a culturally appropriate, validated instrument. The results showed that Parkinson's disease patients were less successful than the control group in understanding social situations and other's thought processes, and had a higher tendency to attribute undesirable events to external causes. However, these deficits in social cognition did not impair the quality of life.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of Azathioprine with other first-line disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) in an Indian population with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). The results showed that Azathioprine was as effective as other approved DMTs in terms of clinical and radiological measures. Although Azathioprine had some safety concerns, it could still be considered a good alternative as a first-line treatment for multiple sclerosis in a real-world setting.
