Predictive factors of death associated with infective endocarditis in adult patients with congenital heart disease

Reaksmei Ly, Fabrice Compain, Bamba Gaye, Florence Pontnau, Melissa Bouchard, Jean-Luc Mainardi, Laurence Iserin, David Lebeaux, Magalie Ladouceur

Summary: This study investigated the outcomes and risk factors of infective endocarditis in adult patients with congenital heart disease, revealing a lower mortality rate in patients with congenital heart disease compared to those without, but particularly high mortality among patients with complex congenital heart disease.

Summary: Phage therapy for A. xylosoxidans lung infection in a lung-transplanted patient showed good clinical tolerance, with gradual improvement in respiratory condition and successful discontinuation of oxygen therapy. Strain-specific qPCRs revealed a more complex dynamics of infection involving multiple strains.

Modulation of the Specificity of Carbapenems and Diazabicyclooctanes for Selective Activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Jean-Philippe Barnier, Saidbakhrom Saidjalolov, Flavie Bouchet, Louis Mayer, Zainab Edoo, Ines Sayah, Laura Iannazzo, Melanie Etheve-Quelquejeu, Jean-Luc Mainardi, Emmanuelle Braud, Michel Arthur

Summary: The combination treatment of carbapenems and beta-lactamase inhibitors for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis carries risks for dysbiosis and the development of resistances in the intestinal microbiota. Researchers have shown that carbapenems can be modified to obtain drugs that are inactive against E. coli but still effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis targets.

Impact of medical and pharmaceutical interventions on anti-infective prescriptions: an observational study

Summary: Appropriate prescribing of anti-infectives is a challenge in public health. This study found that interventions from clinical microbiologists and clinical pharmacists can impact anti-infective prescriptions and improve practices, but there is a need for greater collaboration to enhance acceptance rates.

TIVAP-related infection due to Gram-negative aerobic bacilli: should TIVAP stay or should it go?

Simon Rolland, Najiby Kassis-Chikhani, Edouard Auclin, Samuel Bensaid, Anne-Laure Bidaud, Marie-Paule Gerlinger, Damien Blez, Jean-Luc Mainardi, David Lebeaux, Marie Dubert

Summary: This study aimed to describe the outcomes of TIVAP-related infections caused by Gram-negative aerobic bacilli and assess the safety of conservative treatment. The results showed that TIVAP-related infections caused by GNAB often require TIVAP removal, but conservative treatment can be considered for non-complicated infections caused by P. aeruginosa.

The multiple benefits of second-generation β-lactamase inhibitors in treatment of multidrug-resistant bacteria

F. de Sousa Coelho, J-L Mainardi

Summary: This paper describes promising second-generation beta-lactamase inhibitors, such as avibactam, vaborbactam, and boronic acids, as well as several BL-BLI combinations. While some combinations are in clinical use, most are still limited to clinical trials or preclinical studies, highlighting the ongoing need for the development of novel BLIs to combat multidrug-resistant bacteria. Second-generation BLIs show promise as an effective approach in addressing antibiotic resistance.
