Summary: This study revealed that decreased levels of vitamin D and iron have a negative impact on sleep quality, which in turn leads to a significant pain response. The findings highlight the detrimental role of vitamins on sleep and their interconnected effects on pain perception.

Summary: The study demonstrated that both TSA and RSA provide significant and rapid improvements in patients' ability to sleep comfortably, with a lesser extent in improving their ability to sleep on the affected side. The ability to sleep comfortably reached a plateau at 3 months postoperatively, while the ability to sleep on the affected side reached a plateau at 6 months.

Summary: Individuals with chronic pain often experience co-existing sleep problems and depression-related states. Chronic pain, sleep problems, and depression interrelate, and have been shown to exacerbate one another, which negatively impacts quality of life. The study found that sleep quality may moderate the relationship between pain interference and depression among individuals with chronic pain.

Summary: In this study, the add-on therapy of vitamin D was evaluated in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria. The results showed that vitamin D supplementation significantly reduced the severity of the disease and improved the quality of life. This suggests that vitamin D can be considered as a safe and potentially beneficial treatment for chronic spontaneous urticaria.

Summary: This study aims to assess the relationship between disease activity, inflammatory parameters, and vitamin D and calcium status in patients with sarcoidosis. It was found that calcium concentration was significantly higher in patients with sarcoidosis compared to healthy controls and correlated with some inflammatory markers. However, it did not correlate with vitamin D status. Phosphate concentration was significantly lower in patients with active sarcoidosis and was associated with life quality and fatigue, although not statistically significant.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of vitamin D supplementation on psychological outcomes and quality of life in fibromyalgia patients. The findings suggest that vitamin D supplementation has significant positive effects on physical function, role limitations due to emotional health, social function, and general health in patients with fibromyalgia. However, no significant improvement was observed in pain scores, Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire scores, and Beck's Depression Inventory scores.

Summary: Suboptimal states of vitamin D may have a role in the development of psoriasis, but the relationship between vitamin D levels and psoriasis remains controversial. Our study found a correlation between higher levels of vitamin D and improved quality of life in psoriasis patients, but no significant association with psoriasis severity or previous failure of biologic therapy.

We propose a method that aggregates data from external sites by treating it as missing data. We also suggest incorporating posterior samples from remote sites to improve parameter estimates.

Summary: One central goal of observational study design is to incorporate non-experimental data into an approximate randomized controlled trial using statistical matching. However, residual imbalance due to imperfect matching of observed covariates often persists. This article presents two generic classes of exact statistical tests for a biased randomization assumption and introduces a quantity called residual sensitivity value (RSV) as a means to quantify the level of residual confounding due to imperfect matching of observed covariates in a matched sample. The proposed methodology is demonstrated through a re-examination of a famous observational study.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation in preventing or treating overactive bladder and urinary incontinence in men. The results showed that overall, vitamin D supplementation did not improve overactive bladder or urinary incontinence compared to placebo. However, there were inconsistent findings when vitamin D supplements were used in men with lower levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D.

Summary: This study investigated family planning and fertility counseling perspectives of reproductive-age gender diverse adults and youth pursuing gender affirming hormone therapy. The results showed that individuals interested in or uncertain about future parenthood were more likely to consider cryopreservation and report inadequate family planning counseling. Therefore, current counseling practices may be insufficient and referral to a fertility specialist should be considered.

Summary: Comparison between self-inflicted injuries among transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth and their cisgender peers reveals that TGD individuals are more likely to engage in self-harm and have multiple mental health diagnoses. Universal suicide prevention efforts are necessary for all youth, including those without mental health issues, with intensified efforts for TGD youth and those with mental health diagnoses.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to assess the incidence and predictors of acne among transgender adolescents receiving testosterone. It found that 54% of the patients who did not have baseline acne developed acne within 1 year of testosterone initiation. Patients who used progestin prior to or during follow-up were more likely to develop acne. Therefore, transgender adolescents starting testosterone, particularly those taking progestin, should be monitored for acne development and treated proactively.

Summary: This study investigated the proportion and reasons for discontinuation of gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) in transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals. The results showed that only a small percentage of participants discontinued GAHT, and the main reason was achieving desired treatment effects. This suggests that GAHT discontinuation is low when therapy follows the guidelines of the Endocrine Society.

Summary: This study examined patient satisfaction with current gender-affirming hormone therapy and their goals for additional hormone therapy. The majority of participants were satisfied with their current therapy, but transfeminine individuals and older participants were less likely to report satisfaction. Transfeminine individuals were more likely to plan for additional treatment to achieve goals such as breast size growth and feminine body fat distribution, while transmasculine individuals aimed for reducing dysphoria and masculine body fat distribution.

Summary: The study aims to validate an algorithm for identifying transgender and gender diverse (TGD) patients within electronic health record (EHR) data and evaluate its accuracy. The algorithm was validated in an EHR data set with self-reported gender identity using TGD-related diagnosis and procedure codes, and hormone therapy prescription data. The results showed that the algorithm had good sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value in identifying TGD patients in administrative data. Further categorization based on prescription data also had high accuracy.

This study suggests that vitamin D supplementation during acute pulmonary exacerbation may help reduce the risk for CF-related bone disease by decreasing markers of bone turnover.
