Summary: The proximal serrated polyp detection rate (PSPDR) is inversely associated with the incidence of interval post-colonoscopy colorectal cancer. Monitoring PSPDR, in addition to adenoma detection rate (ADR), can optimize colorectal cancer prevention.

Summary: The study found that high intake of simple sugars and SSBs during adolescence was associated with an increased risk of conventional adenoma, especially rectal adenoma. However, sugar and SSB intake during adulthood was not linked to adenoma risk.

Summary: The study found that while the ADR was similar between the LCI and WLI groups, the LCI group showed significantly lower AMR, especially for diminutive adenomas and nonpolypoid lesions. This suggests that LCI has an advantage in reducing adenoma miss rate.

Summary: This study focused on intermediate-risk individuals undergoing CRC screening and found that the high-risk subgroup had a significantly higher CRC incidence compared to the low-risk subgroup. Surveillance was shown to significantly reduce CRC incidence in the high-risk subgroup.

Summary: The results of the study show that higher total vitamin D intake is associated with decreased risks of early-onset colorectal cancer (CRC) and precursors in women. The inverse association was more evident for dietary sources of vitamin D compared to supplemental vitamin D intake.

Summary: This study examined whether colonoscopy quality measures other than adenoma detection rate (ADR) are associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) risk and death. The results showed that all quality measures, including ADR, polyp detection rate (PDR), advanced adenoma detection rate (AADR), number of adenomas per colonoscopy (APC), and number of adenomas per colonoscopy with at least one adenoma (APPC), were significantly associated with CRC risk and death.

Summary: By analyzing data from the New Hampshire Colonoscopy Registry, we found a correlation between the adenoma detection rate of endoscopists and the risk of postcolonoscopy colorectal cancer. Endoscopists with higher adenoma detection rates had lower risks of colorectal cancer after the examination, validating the adenoma detection rate as an important quality measure for endoscopists.

Summary: The study identifies a metabolite signalling pathway that can be used as a strategy for preventing and treating colorectal cancer. Ketogenic diets and the ketone body BHB show a strong inhibitory effect on tumor growth by reducing cell proliferation. The findings suggest that BHB-triggered pathway could play a crucial role in regulating intestinal tumorigenesis.

Summary: The study found that delayed colonoscopy completion after an abnormal stool-based colorectal cancer screening test is associated with higher risk of CRC incidence, death, and late-stage CRC. Therefore, interventions to improve CRC outcomes should emphasize diagnostic follow-up within 1 year of abnormal screening results.

Summary: Hepatic encephalopathy is a common decompensating event in patients with cirrhosis. Differentiating hepatic encephalopathy from nonhepatic etiologies of cognitive impairment is increasingly important. Multivariable analysis revealed that hepatic encephalopathy was associated with a diagnosis of dementia, independent of other risk factors analyzed.

Summary: This study evaluated the associations between medical conversations about alcohol use disorder (AUD) treatment, AUD treatment engagement, and mortality in patients with alcohol-related cirrhosis. The results showed that fewer than half of the healthcare providers had discussions about AUD treatment, but these discussions were significantly associated with the receipt of treatment.

Summary: Guidelines recommend early paracentesis for hospitalized cirrhosis and ascites patients, but compliance and consequences are lacking. This study found that only 14.3% of admitted veterans received early paracentesis, with higher rates of acute kidney injury, ICU transfer, and inpatient death for those receiving late or no paracentesis. Barriers to this quality metric should be addressed to improve patient outcomes.

Summary: Practical and feasible methods for matching implementation strategies to diagnosed barriers of evidence-based interventions in real-world contexts are lacking. This study evaluated and compared actual implementation strategies with those recommended by an expert opinion-based tool to improve cirrhosis care in a Veterans Health Administration national learning collaborative effort. The study found closer connections between recommended strategies and strategy effectiveness compared to strategy frequency, suggesting validity of barrier identification and application of the expert-informed tool.
