Summary: This study identified a novel synonymous variant c.936G>A in the LMNA gene in a family with severe familial dilated cardiomyopathy, conduction disease, and elevated creatine-kinase level. The findings suggest that the c.936G>A variant results in reduced LMNA mRNA levels and possibly lower protein expression, expanding the understanding of the molecular pathogenesis in DCM patients.

Summary: The generalized complementary relationship (CR) of evaporation was studied in the irrigated double cropping sites of winter wheat and summer maize in the North China Plain, which is influenced by the East Asian dry winter and wet summer monsoon. Different generalized CRs were found in the dry winter wheat season and wet summer maize season, with abrupt changes occurring in June and October. The abrupt change in CR is caused by the sudden reversal of water vapor transport with the winter and summer monsoon and the wheat/maize rotation with irrigation in the winter wheat season. To accurately estimate evaporation in the irrigated double cropping NCP, two-stage phased parameters corresponding to the dry winter wheat and wet summer maize seasons should be adopted in the generalized complementary functions.

Summary: Germline ATM gene variations result in phenotypic heterogeneity characterized by a variable degree of disease severity. Clinical manifestations of A-T include oculocutaneous telangiectasia, ataxia, reduced immunoglobulin levels, and reduced T cell lymphopenia. Unusual presentations such as EBV-associated smooth muscle tumors and Hyper IgM syndrome-like presentation were also observed.

Summary: The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence of common mental disorders among Kathak dancers and non-dancers in North India. The findings showed that Kathak dancers had lower levels of depressive symptoms compared to non-dancers. The study suggests that Kathak dance can be used as a effective tool to reduce the risk of developing depression and generalized anxiety disorder.

Summary: This study provided BLS courses for refugees in Austria, finding that awareness towards CPR and AED, as well as willingness to perform CPR, increased significantly after the courses. Particularly, individuals with past traumatizing experiences, higher education, or those under 18 years old showed a more pronounced impact. Therefore, promoting CPR education among refugees can improve survival rates, as well as foster resilience and integration.

Summary: This study explores the feasibility of GSK-3 beta and p53 as blood-based biomarkers for early detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The results suggest that the expression levels of GSK-3 beta, p53, and their phosphorylated states are significantly elevated in AD and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) patients, and these proteins can differentiate AD and MCI from geriatric-control (GC) subjects. Additionally, the antioxidant Emblica Officinalis (EO) can downregulate the expression levels of GSK-3 beta and p53 proteins in neurotoxic cells induced by amyloid-beta.

Summary: The study investigated the clinical and laboratory characteristics, as well as outcomes, of children with MIS-C related to COVID-19 in a resource-limited setting. Findings showed that fever, gastrointestinal and respiratory symptoms were common in these children, with a higher mortality rate observed in those with preexisting chronic conditions. Raised ferritin levels may serve as a poor prognostic marker, while outcomes for coronary artery involvement were reassuring during follow-up.
