Summary: The study aimed to estimate the cost-utility of second-line pharmacological treatments in acromegaly patients.
The incremental cost-utility ratios for pasireotide, pegvisomant, and pegvisomant + FGSA were estimated, showing pasireotide to be the least cost-efficient treatment option.

Summary: This study analyzed the cost contributors and their impact on drug cost avoidance resulting from cancer clinical trials in a tertiary-level hospital in Spain from 2015 to 2020. Findings showed that lung cancer trials had the highest average DCA, and the number of patients in a trial did not significantly affect the DCA. Additionally, cancer type, phase trials, and intention of treatment were significant cost contributors to DCA.

Summary: The study found that the most common phenotype in elderly patients newly diagnosed with acromegaly includes small adenomas and moderately high IGF-1 levels. GH <= 6 ng/ml at diagnosis and female gender, rather than age per se, were associated with a greater chance of response to SRL.

Summary: The SAGIT tool was tested for its usefulness in assessing disease activity in acromegalic patients in a single centre in Poznan, Poland. The study found that SAGIT scores were higher in treatment-naive patients and the lowest in controlled patients. Positive correlations were observed between SAGIT scores and concentrations of calcium, phosphorus, HbA1C levels, and tumour invasiveness, while parameters such as age, vitamin D concentration, and time from diagnosis showed an inverse relationship with the SAGIT score. The SAGIT instrument is easy to use and can help distinguish clinical stages and aid in decision-making in acromegaly.

Summary: This study investigated the preferences of patients with a rare disease for treatment attributes. It found that quality of life improvement was the most important attribute, followed by control of IGF-I levels, blood sugar control, and tumor control. The study also found that secondary attributes such as side effects and treatment method also influenced patients' choices.

Summary: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is common in patients with acromegaly, with a prevalence of 19-64%. A study in Sweden found that patients with acromegaly had a 6-fold higher incidence for CTS surgery before the diagnosis of acromegaly compared with the general population. Women with acromegaly had a higher risk for CTS than men.

Summary: Molecular therapeutic targets in growth hormone-secreting adenomas have potential for drug development, including surface receptors recognized by approved drugs and markers for new drug candidates. Current medical therapies control the disease in most patients but the degree of control varies and is related to disease aggressiveness and tumor factors. Understanding the mechanisms behind these molecular markers and their relationship to outcomes holds promise for expanding treatment options and personalized approaches.

Summary: Conventional wheat milling produces a significant amount of wheat bran, which is rich in polyphenols and insoluble fiber with potential health benefits. This study evaluated the impact of protein content on the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and glycemic properties of wheat bran. The findings demonstrated that protein content significantly influenced these properties, and segregation of wheat bran based on protein content could enhance the efficiency of valorization processes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between sex and cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy in patients with type 1 diabetes. The results showed that women over 50 years old had twice the probability of developing cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy compared to younger women, and women had more severe cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy than men. Additionally, menopause was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy in women.

Summary: This research found that the expression of miR-142-3p and miR-598-3p, which are associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), differs significantly between women with PCOS and those without. These circulating miRNAs, when combined with easily available measurements such as waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) and circulating LH-to-FSH (LH/FSH) ratios, can effectively distinguish between women with and without PCOS.

Summary: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis on the consequences of PCOS during the late reproductive years and after menopause. The study found that women with PCOS in peri- and postmenopause presented increased levels of testosterone and androgens, as well as decreased levels of sex hormone-binding globulin. They also had higher measures of obesity, insulin resistance, and risk for diabetes and hypertension. Furthermore, they had lower levels of HDL cholesterol and higher levels of triglycerides. Although myocardial infarction and stroke were more prevalent in women with PCOS, the prevalence of cardiovascular disease, coronary artery disease, breast cancer, and age at menopause were similar between patients and controls. The study highlights the persistence of hyperandrogenism and the importance of addressing the comorbidity of weight excess in women with PCOS.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of the rs1042714 genetic variant of ADRB2 gene on weight loss, body composition, and metabolic changes in women with obesity. The study found that the G allele of rs1042714 predicts the magnitude of weight loss resulting from a pMR diet, and these adiposity improvements lead to a better improvement of insulin resistance and impaired glucose metabolism in G allele carriers.
