Summary: The Danish study found that ICD implantation did not provide an overall survival benefit in patients with nonischemic systolic heart failure. However, in patients aged 70 and younger, ICD implantation was associated with a lower incidence of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular death, and sudden cardiovascular death.

Summary: This study evaluated the long-term outcome of patients with arrhyth-mogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM) who underwent third-generation subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (S-ICD) implantation with the intermuscular (IM) two-incision technique. The findings showed that although the third-generation S-ICD with the IM two-incision technique appeared to have a low risk of complications and inappropriate shocks (IS) due to cardiac oversensing, the risk of IS due to myopotential mainly during effort should be considered.

Summary: The study evaluated the prognosis of patients receiving life-saving WCD shocks. Patients with WCD shocks showed a favorable survival, and those without an ICD recommendation after WCD prescription did not experience SCD during follow-up. These findings support the careful risk stratification before considering an ICD and the use of WCD for temporary protection from SCD.

Summary: The study evaluated the prognosis of patients receiving life-saving WCD shocks, showing a favorable survival for patients with WCD shocks and no SCD during follow-up for patients without an ICD recommendation after WCD prescription. This supports the practice of careful risk stratification before considering an ICD and using the WCD for temporary protection from SCD.

Summary: The study found apparent non-linear associations between night-time heart rate and ventricular tachyarrhythmias (VTAs) and ICD shocks. An increasing incidence of VTAs and ICD shocks was observed at both low and high levels of night-time heart rate, with a night-time heart rate of 50-70 bpm potentially being the optimal therapeutic target for the management of ICD/CRT-D recipients.

Summary: HFrecEF is recognized as a distinct clinical entity with increasing prevalence, and continued guideline-directed medical therapy is crucial to promote myocardial recovery. Despite the lower risk of sudden cardiac death in HFrecEF compared to HFrEF, the benefits of continued ICD therapy need to be weighed against potential risks and limitations.

Summary: The objective of this study was to identify the risk of distress in implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) patients and associated risk factors. The results showed that patients with low distress scores had a low likelihood of increased distress during the 24-month follow-up, while those with increased levels were likely to maintain increased levels. Factors such as higher education, higher age, female sex, and good physical functioning at baseline were associated with less distress at follow-up. Previous psychological problems, smoking, Type D personality, NYHA class III-IV, and shocks during follow-up were associated with distress. Overall, patients' psychological health improved, but those with increased baseline scores were more likely to have increased distress at follow-up.

Summary: Patients with a history of atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation have worse survival. However, after performing multivariate analysis and propensity score matching analysis, AF is no longer significant, indicating a worse preoperative condition in these patients. Regarding thrombo-embolic events, only patients with a history of AF who survive beyond 24 months have a higher rate of cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs).

Summary: A subgroup of patients with noncompaction cardiomyopathy (NCCM) is at increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death (SCD). Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy could be advantageous for preventing SCD in these patients. A pooled analysis of available studies showed that ICD therapy in patients with NCCM resulted in a high appropriate intervention rate and a low cardiac mortality rate. However, inappropriate therapy and complications were not rare.
