Summary: This study analyzed the clinical outcomes of repeat fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy and genomic classifier results in indeterminate thyroid nodules (ITNs). The results showed that repeat FNA helped reclassify nodules as benign, avoiding the need for diagnostic surgery. The risk of high-risk malignancy in ThyroSeq-positive nodules with repeat indeterminate cytology was low.

Summary: This study identified a panel of miRNAs associated with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) using bioinformatic and molecular methods. Among these miRNAs, miR-21-5p, miR-93-5p, miR-146b-5p, miR-155-5p, and miR-182-5p were found to be overexpressed in OSCC tissues, while miR-133b was downregulated. Additionally, the high expression of these miRNAs was correlated with HPV-induced OSCC and predicted shorter disease-free survival (DFS).

Summary: Based on a retrospective analysis of 50 patients with esophageal strictures, we found that endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is effective and safe for the diagnosis of suspected malignant strictures with negative biopsies. EUS-FNA can provide satisfactory cytological and histological specimens, and it plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with smooth esophageal stenosis.

Summary: This meta-analysis examined the use of sonographic criteria in predicting malignancy in indeterminate thyroid nodules, finding variations in sensitivity and specificity among different criteria. The study suggests that Bethesda III nodules with low-suspicion TIRADS features may benefit from clinical observation, while nodules with high-suspicion ATA features may require additional molecular testing or surgery.

Summary: The study demonstrates that combining the BRAF V600E mutation test with the TBSRTC system increases sensitivity, accuracy, and negative predictive value for distinguishing between benign and malignant thyroid nodules. The BRAF V600E mutation test shows superiority in positive predictive value and specificity for detecting malignant nodules compared to the TBSRTC system.

Summary: After analyzing the clinicopathologic features and mutational analysis of pediatric cases with indeterminate thyroid nodules, it was found that there is a correlation between genetic characteristics and indeterminate cytology in high incidence of thyroid malignancy.

Summary: This study investigates the use of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) molecular profiles in differentiating malignant and benign lung nodules via a liquid biopsy-based approach. The researchers develop a novel chip called DECODE that can analyze sEV biomarkers expression and generate digitally acquired sEV molecular profiles. The results show that DECODE can successfully separate malignant from benign lung nodules, suggesting its potential for non-invasive characterization of lung nodules found in lung cancer screening.

Summary: In this study, group penalized logistic regressions were used to enhance the accuracy of ovarian cancer diagnosis. By dividing patients into two sets and utilizing specific algorithms and cross validation, it was found that group penalized logistic regressions outperformed other machine learning and deep learning methods in terms of accuracy, F1-score, and AUC.

Summary: The role of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) in the diagnosis of suspicious esophageal strictures was evaluated. The study demonstrated that EUS-FNA is a useful tool for obtaining accurate tissue samples and diagnosing suspicious malignant esophageal strictures, especially in cases with negative biopsy results. No major complications were observed.

Summary: The study found that the ratios of MK/TG and MK/FT4 have potential diagnostic utility for papillary thyroid carcinomas, particularly for cytologically indeterminate thyroid nodules. These ratios showed higher sensitivity and accuracy compared to fine-needle aspiration cytology alone, especially for nodules of unknown significance or suspected of malignancy.

Summary: The study investigated the efficiency of the AI-Sonic CAD system for the detection and diagnosis of thyroid nodules, with findings showing that the system had better performance in recommending FNA compared to experts and novices. Additionally, the CAD system based on deep learning showed improved diagnostic accuracy and feasibility, helpful in avoiding unnecessary FNA.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of needle bevel geometry and length on resonance characteristics and deflection magnitude, finding differences in deflection-to-power ratio among needles with different bevel geometries in air and water. The study emphasizes the importance of the relationship between bevel geometry flexural stiffness and insertion media, providing insights for controlling post-puncture cutting action.

Summary: A new diagnostic method using high-frequency impedance (H-impedance) measured by an EUS-FNB needle was developed to differentiate between gastric GI stromal tumor (GIST) and non-GIST. The study showed a significant positive correlation between H-impedance and cell density. This method has high accuracy and sensitivity in diagnosing GISTs and non-GISTs, and is not affected by lesion size.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration and capillary sampling with different gauge needles for cervical lymph node biopsy. Results showed that 22G fine-needle aspiration and 22G capillary sampling were more effective in sampling adequacy and diagnostic efficiency compared to 25G fine-needle aspiration. The study suggests that 22G fine-needle aspiration and 22G capillary sampling may be more suitable for diagnosing cervical lymph nodes.
