Summary: Recent studies have shown that traditional estrogen receptors, alpha and beta, can also act at the cell surface in addition to their nuclear functions. Signaling from these membrane-bound estrogen receptors can rapidly affect cellular excitability and ultimately impact gene expression. The interaction between these membrane receptors and metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) plays a key role in various female functions such as reproduction and motivation.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of unstudied polymorphisms on recurrent miscarriage. A systematic review identified 143 studies worldwide, and 13 genes were assessed in case-control studies. Quantitative analysis included 92 studies and 22 SNPs. Certain variations showed significant association with recurrent miscarriage risk, but further research is needed for confirmation.

Summary: Approximately 80% of miscarriages occur within the first 12 weeks of gestation, with more than half resulting from genetic defects. Recent use of big data has led to the discovery of specific gene mutations that may be implicated in sporadic and recurrent miscarriages.

Summary: Miscarriage and recurrent miscarriage have profound and prolonged psychological impacts, yet support for miscarriage remains inadequate. Acknowledgment and validation of grief, provision of information, and addressing the discrepancy between bereavement care offered and desired are important steps to ameliorate the impact. Collecting national miscarriage data and establishing national research funding priorities would allow for a better understanding of the socioeconomic cost and burden of miscarriage and enable targeted research for public health benefit.

Summary: Recurrent pregnancy loss is a complex health challenge with no universally accepted definition. The true incidence is difficult to estimate due to inconsistency in definitions and criteria applied by international guidelines. The exact etiology remains questionable and up to 75% of cases are unexplained. This review aimed to summarize accumulated knowledge on etiology, risk factors, diagnostic options, and management approach to recurrent pregnancy loss.

Summary: Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is defined as two to three spontaneous pregnancy terminations before 12 weeks of gestation, potentially caused by factors like gamete quality, uterine issues, endometrial receptivity alterations, immunologic factors, and thrombophilia.

Summary: Estrogens, a group of hormones, play pivotal roles in physiological processes and are implicated in pathophysiological changes such as cancer. The two isoforms of estrogen receptor (ER), ER alpha and ER beta, elicit different transcriptional and tissue-specific responses. The expression of ER subtypes and their correlation with clinical outcomes of cancer are influenced by co-regulators, which play a role in modulating transcriptional activity on target gene chromatin. This review provides an overview of ER-driven responses, focusing on the complex interaction between ERs and chromatin modifiers, and discusses how chromatin accessibility and epigenetic modifications contribute to ER recruitment and transactivation.

Summary: Exposure to heavy metals can have toxic effects on female reproduction and embryo development. This study found that calcium and selenium exposure were negatively associated with miscarriage, while lead exposure was positively associated with miscarriage. Additionally, the correlations among exposures to different metals differed slightly between the control group and the uRM group.

Summary: Estrogen sulfotransferase (SULT1E1) is an important enzyme involved in sulfating estrogens, thyroid hormones, and certain medications. Genetic variants of SULT1E1 have been linked to diseases, especially sex-hormone-related cancers. Understanding the role and polymorphisms of SULT1E1 is crucial for its clinical relevance.

Summary: Altered immune and inflammatory response play a crucial role in recurrent pregnancy loss and repeated implantation failure, with exacerbated maternal immune response potentially leading to embryo rejection or implantation failure. Lipid emulsion therapy has emerged as a treatment for patients with abnormal NK cell activity, but the mechanisms behind its effectiveness remain unclear.

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death in both women and men in Brazil. This study analyzed the trends in age-adjusted death rates from 1996 to 2019 in women and men aged 35 to 74 years. The results showed that the death rates decreased more significantly in women compared to men, and there were changes in the male/female ratio for cardiovascular diseases.

Summary: This community-based study investigated students' knowledge of stroke, emergency medical services activation, associated risk factors, warning signs and symptoms, and prior experience in the KIDS SAVE LIVES BRAZIL project. The study found varying levels of awareness among students, with factors such as gender, education level, and prior experience influencing knowledge of stroke. Schoolchildren and adolescents should be the main target for stroke awareness.
