Summary: We used propensity score matching methodology to compare the performance of Minority Owned/Controlled Banks (MDIs) and Non-Minority Banks (NMDIs) in terms of profit rates and risk. Contrary to previous studies, our empirical results show that MDIs do not exhibit under- or over-performance compared to NMDIs. Additionally, there is no statistically significant difference between the sub-categories of MDIs (Black, Asian, Hispanic, and Native American) and NMDIs in terms of profitability and riskiness. Robustness checks using zip code and city-level data confirm these results effectively.

Summary: We evaluate the performance of AI-powered mutual funds and find that they do not outperform the market overall. However, a comparison reveals that AI-powered funds significantly outperform human-managed peer funds. Our research indicates that the outperformance of AI funds can be attributed to their lower transaction costs, superior stock-picking capability, and reduced behavioral biases.

Summary: Using biogeographical and phylogenetic data, it is found that molecular trees fit species geographical data better than morphology trees, and this difference is not only because of higher tree resolution. The superiority of molecular trees has rarely been empirically assessed. However, through analyzing two independent data sources, it is demonstrated that molecular trees provide a better fit to biogeographic data than morphology trees on average, and the biogeographic congruence increases over research time. There are no significant differences in stratigraphic congruence between morphology and molecular trees.

Summary: Emerging markets present profit opportunities for institutional investors, who have increased their participation in these markets in recent years. In this study, the performance of foreign and domestic institutional investors in an Asian emerging market was compared. It was found that institutional investors preferred low-risk stocks and their trading activities exhibited short-termism and cyclicality. No superior market timing or stock-picking skills were observed among institutional investors.

Summary: The study reveals that both the stock picking and market timing skills of fund managers impact the performance difference between SR-5S and MS-5S fund portfolios, with SR-5S funds generally outperforming MS-5S funds. However, the departure of a fund manager is associated with performance declines, with SR-5S funds experiencing larger declines than MS-5S funds.

Summary: AI livestream with virtual anchors allows global brands to promote products across cultural differences. Investigating the tradeoffs between AI livestream and widely adopted KOL livestream in cross-border operations is important. The study reveals that AI livestream is beneficial when there is a strong network externality among livestream fans or when retail channel tariff costs are high.

Summary: This paper analyzes the operation and maintenance performance and the influencing factors of contract governance of photovoltaic poverty alleviation power stations (PPAPS) using field data from 110 counties in Henan Province, China. The results show that PPAPS has relatively high O & M efficiency, but there are regional differences. The governance factors of O & M contracts also have an impact on the efficiency of PPAPS.

Summary: Aquatic ectotherms may experience changes in hypoxic performance due to climate warming and thermal acclimation. Most studies focus on testing hypoxic responses at temperatures matching organisms' acclimation temperatures, limiting the interpretation of thermal acclimation effects. Some studies suggest that warm acclimation may improve hypoxic performance in aquatic ectotherms.

Summary: In this study, the effects of carbon dots in perovskite solar cells were systematically studied. Amined-terminated carbon dots can improve the crystal quality of perovskite films, but reduce hole mobility. On the other hand, carbon dots deposited between the electron transport layer and active layer can enhance film quality and electron extraction efficiency.

Summary: Understanding the physiological and kinematic connection of natural swimmers is crucial for designing efficient bio-inspired underwater vehicles. This study focuses on high-fidelity numerical simulations of flows over an undulating American eel to investigate why natural anguilliform swimmers choose shorter wavelengths for wavy kinematics. The findings demonstrate that anguilliform swimmers show better hydrodynamic performance with wavelengths of 0.65 and 0.80, while longer wavelengths result in increased frictional drag.

Summary: The study found that the presence of women in boards of directors positively influences firms' productivity, especially in the manufacturing sector. Geographical location plays a role in the productivity differential of female managed firms. Female and mixed managed firms are more productive compared to male only managed firms.

Summary: The study examined factors influencing performance in the Safe Surgery 2020 intervention in Tanzania and found that higher performers prioritized teamwork, communication, and collective learning, while lower performers focused on overhauling safety practices. Future interventions should tailor to facility context and invest in strengthening these areas to build a receptive climate for successful implementation.

Summary: This study compares the bread-making potential of different types of rice (normal rice and glutinous rice) in producing gluten-free bread. Significant differences were found in the properties of rice flour. The specific volume and texture of gluten-free bread were correlated with the amylose content and pasting properties of rice flour. Normal rice was found to produce gluten-free bread with larger volume, even texture, and better resilience compared to glutinous rice flour.

Summary: This study proposes a new threshold model to differentiate the responses of large- and small-cap exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to extreme market conditions. The findings show that small-cap ETFs tend to fall more in extreme downturns, while large-cap ETFs tend to rise more in upswings. Therefore, investors should be cautious when allocating excessive weights to small-cap ETFs in their portfolio.

Summary: This study focuses on examining the performance differences between bank-related and non-bank-related mutual funds in emerging markets. The empirical testing model is improved to match the characteristics of the high-volatility and high-reward emerging market, introducing co-skewness as an additional risk factor. The findings provide evidence of the superior market timing ability of high-performance bank-related funds, supporting the information advantage hypothesis.

Summary: This essay discusses Figure 18 of Hennig's Phylogenetic Systematics, explores different hierarchical patterns, reviews interpretations of the figure, and discusses the pathway from systematic evidence to phylogenetic explanation. The argument highlights that scientific systematic hierarchies are nested sets based on patterns of synapomorphy, and concepts of phylogeny and common ancestry reflect this hierarchical pattern.
