Summary: Asia accounts for a large portion of global aquatic food consumption, but the behaviors and attitudes of Asian consumers towards aquatic food are not well understood. This paper reviews the literature on factors influencing aquatic food consumption behavior in Asia and identifies five clusters of publications. The study finds that price is a central factor influencing aquatic food consumption behavior among Asian consumers, and knowledge and attitudes towards the quality and safety of aquatic foods are important but mediated by household characteristics. Sustainable production practices, country of origin, and ecolabels have less influence on consumption behavior. Future multidisciplinary research is needed to better understand the interactions among the multiple factors that influence Asian consumers' aquatic food consumption behavior.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of fertilizer nitrogen levels on the yield, bulb quality, and consumers' preference of short-day onions grown under subtropical conditions in the southeastern U.S. The results showed that nitrogen levels had a significant effect on yield and bulb quality, but did not affect consumers' preference. Additionally, the appropriate nitrogen application rate could sustain soil mineral nitrogen availability.

Summary: This study surveyed consumers from the USA, Australia, Singapore, and India regarding their willingness to consume 5 types of plant-based foods. The results showed distinct clusters of consumers with different patterns of willingness to consume. Emotional, conceptual, and situational use characterizations also influenced willingness to consume. The study emphasizes the importance of understanding that consumers are not homogenous in their willingness to consume plant-based foods, and that it varies across food categories.

Summary: The objective of this study is to examine the roles of product quality and network effects in the success and efficiency of network markets. The research paper demonstrates that the efficiency of network markets relies on the adjustment of competition models and the balance between network effects and product quality. The findings suggest that network effects may not always enhance market efficiency and growth, and high quality enterprises should consider compatibility with enterprises with large network effects. The paper also provides insights on government intervention in network markets.

Summary: Plantain is an important food security crop for farming households in Nigeria. This study examines the relative importance of plantain food products and their quality descriptors among farmers in Southern Nigeria, with a focus on informing breeding strategies that promote hybrid adoption. Survey findings highlight key characteristics such as fruit size, pulp texture, color, maturity stage, and taste that impact the quality of processed food products, with significant differences in the importance of plantain food products observed between states. However, there are minimal interstate and gender variations in fresh fruit and food product quality characteristics.

Summary: This study examines the demand for traceability information attributes in seafood markets, particularly in emerging markets like Bangladesh. The results indicate that consumers prioritize vitamins, cholesterol, and preservatives, while showing less concern for microbiological contamination and pesticide residues. Consumers are more likely to choose fish with traceability information that meet safety control standards, and are willing to pay a higher price for this information.

Summary: The aim of this study is to examine the behavior and preferences of consumers in Slovakia regarding mushroom consumption. Through a consumer survey of 1166 respondents, the study used statistical methods to analyze differences in consumer behavior among three identified segments. The results showed significant differences in consumption frequency, preferred mealtime, consumption reasons, mushroom species preference, and purchase location. Encouraging mushroom consumption can be achieved by increasing consumer awareness and publishing relevant articles.

Summary: The study investigates consumers' preferences for genetically modified (GM) salmon compared to non-GM farmed and wild-caught salmon, using a choice experiment. The results show that U.S. consumers are willing to pay significantly less for GM salmon and the valuation varies among consumers based on their perceptions, knowledge, and attitudes towards GM food. Consumers who are more concerned about health and safety, environmental sustainability, and welfare, as well as those with negative attitudes towards GM food, place a lower value on GM salmon. Additionally, consumers require a larger price discount for fresh GM salmon compared to frozen salmon.

Summary: This study aims to suggest a care protocol for foreign-body ingestion, address clinical aspects, and identify the ingested object, severity, and professional conduct. The study suggests that coins are the most commonly involved foreign bodies, and asymptomatic patients usually only require conservative management. However, ingestion of batteries, magnets, and sharp objects may lead to serious complications and require endoscopic or surgical approaches. The study recommends developing individual protocols based on these findings.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic integrative review of the microbiological diagnosis of Salmonella spp. in aquaculture between 2000 and 2020. The results showed that Asian countries had the highest number of articles, fish was the most sampled category, and culture water, muscle, and intestine were the most commonly positive sample units. The culture isolation method supported by PCR was the most widely used diagnostic method, and S. Typhimurium, S. Weltevreden, and S. Newport were the most prevalent serovars. This information provides an overview of the occurrence of Salmonella spp. in the aquaculture sector and highlights the need for future research on control and prevention strategies.

Summary: The bioconversion of red tilapia by-products into protein hydrolysates using neutrase and papain resulted in a high degree of hydrolysis and yield. These tilapia protein hydrolysates (TPH) are rich in minerals, essential amino acids, and low-molecular-weight peptides. TPH exhibit water solubility and emulsifying capacity under neutral and alkaline conditions, but have low foam stability. TPH also demonstrate strong antioxidant activity and promote bacterial growth. Therefore, TPH offer potential as functional and bioactive ingredients in food formulations, a high-performance bacterial culture media, and a sustainable solution for reducing tilapia-processing wastes.

Summary: This study presents two suggestions for further research on body composition assessment, specifically focusing on the effects of intermittent fasting and time-restricted feeding on the gut microbiota in obese individuals. The findings indicate that both interventions can lead to changes in the Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio and increase the abundance of protective strains, such as Lactobacillus spp. and Akkermansia, which may contribute to metabolic benefits against body mass gain.
