Summary: Machine learning-augmented density functional theory calculations were used to evaluate the stability of various AgO(x) structures under catalytic ethylene epoxidation reaction conditions. Multiple AgO(x) surface motifs were found to co-exist, including Ag surface oxides and atomic oxygen-covered Ag(111) surfaces. The energetics of different reaction mechanisms involving ethylene and oxygen were analyzed, revealing viable pathways for ethylene epoxidation. Microkinetic modeling showed that the reaction could occur on all surfaces and involve multiple mechanisms.

Summary: In this paper, a method using artificial neural networks (ANNs) to predict the output electrical signal of biosensors is proposed. By assuming electrical current as outputs, and the refractive index of biosamples, central wavelength (lambda), and full width half maximum (FWHM) of input light source as inputs, a multilayer perceptron model is developed. A comparative approach between finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method and ANN results is used to evaluate the biosensor's ANN model. The results show that the developed ANN model can accurately predict the output with a small mean square error (MSE) of about 2.9 x 10(-8) as the evaluation parameter. Pre-optimization is performed using the developed model to find the optimum conditions for electrical sensitivity and responsivity.

Summary: This study investigated the physicochemical properties, thermal degradation behavior, and thermodynamic analysis of Petcoke fuel. The results showed that it is a less reactive fuel with low pore volume and predominantly inorganic graphitic carbon. The study also examined its pyrolysis performance and developed an artificial neural network model to simulate the thermal degradation behavior.

Summary: In this study, indentation tests were carried out to investigate the mechanical properties of pure and glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites incorporated with nanosilica and nanoclay. The results showed that adding nanoparticles, especially nanoclay, mitigated the reduction in mechanical properties caused by acid immersion. Conversely, nanosilica increased the plasticity index and accelerated degradation.

Summary: The use of micromechanics and homogenization theory allows for predicting the effective mechanical properties of materials based on microstructural information. The microstructural information is encoded in images using convolutional neural networks (CNN), through which geometric information is reduced to ten characteristic features. A fully connected neural network model is introduced to predict the effective yield surfaces based on the encoded information, resulting in a computationally efficient CNN-FCNN model.

Summary: This study focused on the synthesis of silver nanoparticles and their antibacterial activity. The use of nitric acid to adjust the pH during synthesis produced larger and more varied particle sizes. The silver nanoparticles were successfully loaded onto clay minerals and exhibited strong antibacterial effects. Additionally, the cytotoxicity of the silver-loaded samples was found to be low.

Summary: This study conducted mechanical processing and pre-treatment on oil palm trunk before fermentation, and developed a model to predict bioethanol production. Analysis of the composition of oil palm trunk sap was done using HPLC and GC, with the experimental results showing that the model could help identify the optimal conditions for bioethanol production. Sensitivity analysis techniques were also used to identify the most effective parameters in the bioethanol process.
