Summary: We numerically study the behavior of a semiconductor ring laser subject to bidirectional delayed optical feedback in the quasi-unidirectional regime. The optical feedback, provided by two external reflectors, can modify the laser regime produced by the cross-saturation between the clockwise and the counter-clockwise mode. The system exhibits new regimes, most of which are asymmetric and bidirectional, with alternating dominant mode. Two of these regimes are of special interest for applications as the laser switching period is linearly related to the time of flight. The laser can be used as a telemeter with a convenient electrical output signal obtained by a photodiode or by measuring the voltage drop across the laser junction. Simulations are performed based on rate-equations using typical literature parameters for a 1 mW ring laser.

Summary: In this paper, we present a high-sensitivity tune measurement system based on diode detection for an electron storage ring, and carry out experiments without beam excitation on the HLS-II storage ring. The system consists of an analog front-end, spectrum analyzer, and host computer, and shows good signal-to-noise ratio without beam excitation.

Summary: Energy Storage System modelling is crucial for researching the deployment and optimization of energy storage in various applications. This paper introduces a Battery Energy Storage System model developed in MATLAB/Simulink, which is experimentally verified against an existing installation. The model achieves an average RMSE accuracy of 1.29% and 1.05% when compared with two different methods of state of charge measurement. The paper also discusses the methodology of fine tuning the model to reduce the average RMSE.

Summary: The paper aims to determine the particle size composition of wood particles obtained from CNC milling of chipboard using an experimental optical granulometric method. Chipboard, a composite material, is widely used in woodworking and furniture industries. The proposed optical method is compared to the sieving technique for measuring particle dimensions. The experimental method allows for detailed analysis of wood dust emission, including the size, shape, and color of individual particles.

Summary: In this experiment, an atomic-ensemble quantum memory was verified using a measurement-device-independent scheme. A single photon was stored in one atomic ensemble and later retrieved for interference with a second photon for a joint Bell-state measurement. By evaluating correlations between random states and BSM results, the memory's ability to preserve entanglement was confirmed.

Summary: This paper presents an algorithm and MATLAB implementation for computing the Kummer function U(a, b, x) and its derivative. The algorithm is efficient and accurate. Numerical tests demonstrate that the MATLAB algorithm can compute the function with a relative accuracy of about 10^(-14) in the parameter region (a, b, x) ∈ (0, 500) × (0, 500) × (0, 1000) in double-precision floating point arithmetic.

Summary: The lattice upgrade of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) involved replacing bending magnets, constructing two DMB systems, and installing a superconducting wiggler. The symmetry of the storage ring was destroyed, necessitating modifications to the global optics. The lattice design matched the new elements and achieved sufficient dynamic aperture and energy acceptance through elaborate design and optimization.

Summary: This paper presents the impact of active insertion devices (ID) on the beam emittance and energy spread in future synchrotron light sources. The magnetic gap data of Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) was used to evaluate the emittance variation in an 864mRing. A novel compensation method using two compensation wigglers was developed to improve both the beam emittance and energy spread stability, resulting in enhanced brightness stability during operation.
