Summary: Bis-octyloxy-calix[4]arene-mono-crown-6 (BOCMC) is a selective ligand for Cs(I) cation and has been successfully used in solvent extraction for Cs(I) separation. This study aimed to prepare composite beads containing BOCMC in a suitable polymeric matrix. Various preparation methods were attempted, and the best results were obtained using a ligand solution dissolved in C(8)mim.Tf2N ionic liquid in polysulfone (PS) matrix.

Summary: In this study, a series of α-diimine palladium complexes with two vinyl units were designed and synthesized, and they were employed as chain-transfer agents in tandem ring opening metathesis polymerization/cross metathesis reactions. Well-defined polymeric Pd catalysts with improved catalytic performances were successfully prepared. These catalysts exhibited enhanced catalytic activities in ethylene and 1-hexene polymerization, as well as improved tolerance to polar comonomers. The catalyst performance could be tuned by varying the structure or amount of cyclic monomer used in their preparation.

Summary: Thermal conversion of automotive shredder residue (ASR) using indirect fluidized bed gasification was conducted, with a focus on the interactions between the bed material and the ASR ash. Iron deposition onto olivine particles was observed, potentially increasing their oxygen-carrying ability. A significant portion of the particles in the bed originated from the ASR ash, containing Fe, Si, Zn, Ti, Cu, with some particles exhibiting a hollow morphology suggesting a melt state during formation.

Summary: The characterisation of pyrolysis of automotive shredder residue using different analytical techniques was reported in this article to investigate the possibility of converting the residue into value-added products. The results showed that the pyrolysis process consisted of one to two stages, with the first stage involving the degradation of functional stabilisers and the second stage involving the thermal degradation of the polymer char. The evolution of gases and functional groups, as well as the kinetic parameters for the pyrolysis reactions, were also determined.

Summary: This study evaluated the recovery of Pt, Pd, and Rh from spent automotive catalysts using polymer inclusion membranes containing an ionic liquid. It was found that the isotropic dense membrane showed high purity recovery of Pt and Pd, while the anisotropic porous membrane recovered Pt, Pd, and Rh with faster transport kinetics. Both membrane types demonstrated excellent durability even after exposure to various harsh chemicals for 10 days.

Summary: In this study, immobilized kieselguhr was used as a sorbent to extract palladium ions from an aqueous solution. The physicochemical properties of the immobilized kieselguhr were characterized, and its sorption potential for Pd(II) and La(III) was investigated. The results showed that the immobilized kieselguhr had good adsorption capacity for Pd(II) and could successfully separate it from other metal ions.

Summary: This study addresses the selective hydrogenation of alkynols using hybrid catalysts and hyper-cross-linked polystyrenes. The synthesized catalysts show high selectivity towards the target product with nearly complete conversion of the alkynols. The use of microporous and mesoporous HPS materials also provides advantages in the hydrogenation of long-chain alkynols.

Summary: PGMs were captured from the leaching residue of spent automotive catalysts through NiSO4 smelting and sulfuric acid treatment, which increased the PGM content. The effects of trap, fluxing agent, and slagging agent dosage on PGMs recovery were investigated to determine the optimum smelting conditions. The capture efficiency for Pt, Pd, and Rh was 90.13%, 91.02%, and 90.54% respectively under specific conditions. During the acid leaching enrichment process, the content of PGMs in the enrichment slag was significantly increased compared to the raw materials. The combined method of smelting and wet extraction provides valuable references for PGMs enrichment from secondary resources.

Summary: We compared and understood the catalytic arene alkenylation using Pd(II) and Rh(I) precursors in the presence of arene, olefin, and Cu(II) carboxylate at elevated temperatures. The results showed that Rh catalysis is more selective for arene/olefin coupling and produces styrene more rapidly, while Pd catalysis has a higher predilection toward olefin functionalization. The regioselectivity of Pd catalysis is significantly influenced by arene electronics, while Rh catalysis is not sensitive to it.
