Summary: A fast, simple, and cost-effective analytical procedure for traceable determination of lithium concentration in human serum has been proposed. The method is based on monitoring lithium isotope dilution through the partially resolved isotope shift in its electronic transition. The results are comparable to more complex and expensive techniques such as isotope dilution mass spectrometry.

Summary: In this work, a novel composite Pt/Ni trap was fabricated to trap Hg and Cd simultaneously, and a solid sampling Hg-Cd analyzer was developed using an MCH, a composite Pt/Ni trap, and an AFS. The Pt/Ni trap fulfilled the complete trapping and fast release of Hg and Cd. Under optimized conditions, the method detection limits of Hg and Cd reached 0.4 μg/kg and 0.04 μg/kg, the RSDs were within 12% and 8%, and the recoveries ranged from 96% to 105%. The proposed Hg-Cd analyzer is suitable for rapid detection of Hg and Cd in soil samples.

Summary: Pt(IV) ion-imprinted thiocyanato-functionalized SBA-15 material (Pt(IV)S1) was used for preconcentration of Pt(IV) ions from digested geological samples before ETAAS determination. The ion-imprinted material showed high adsorption affinity and selectivity towards Pt(IV) ions. The proposed procedure achieved a high enrichment factor of 38 and a low limit of quantification of 0.079 mg kg-1.

Summary: The development of miniature, sensitive, high throughput, and in-situ analytical instruments using dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) has become a hot topic in modern analytical chemistry. DBD offers advantages such as easy operation, simple configuration, ambient working temperature and pressure, low power consumption, and miniature dimension. Its applications in analytical atomic spectrometry include serving as excitation or atomization sources in AES, AAS, and AFS, as well as functioning as a vapor generation system.

Summary: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) can be extracted from their ions using magnetic dispersive micro-solid phase extraction with non-functionalised ferrite particles. The extraction is based on controlling the acidity of the medium, without involving oxidation-reduction processes. The analytes are desorbed and determined by electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry. The method has a high enrichment factor, low detection limits, and good reproducibility.
