Summary: This study examines the relationship between longitudinal growth trajectory and asthma development in infants with bronchiolitis. The findings suggest that children with a persistent obesity growth profile have a higher risk of developing asthma, particularly if they do not have allergic predisposition.

Summary: This comprehensive review of human adipose tissue fails to mention the role of the endocannabinoid system in fat metabolism. The endogenous cannabinoids and their receptors, found in both white and brown fat, have been recognized as key players in adipose tissue metabolism. Rimonabant, an inverse agonist of cannabinoid receptor type 1, has shown promising effects as a therapeutic target for obesity, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance, although its clinical use was discontinued due to neuropsychiatric side effects.

Summary: This study found that prenatal exposure to phthalates may be associated with lower birth weight but not with weight in childhood. However, the results regarding adiposity showed that prenatal exposure to phthalates may lead to lower adiposity at birth and higher adiposity at 3-4 years of age.

Summary: Among reproductive-age women in sub-Saharan Africa, the prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing. Maternal body mass index (BMI) may influence the risk of infant infections in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). Data from a birth cohort of 5344 HIV-unexposed Zimbabwean infants showed that the rate of sick clinic visits for infections during the first 12 months postpartum progressively rose among infants of overweight and obese women, particularly due to skin, respiratory, and ear infections. Maternal obesity may therefore influence infant infectious morbidity in LMIC over the first year after birth.

Summary: This study found that BMI trajectories in adult life are associated with endometrial cancer risk, with longer exposure to overweight and obesity across a lifetime increasing the risk. Weight during adulthood also plays an important role in EC risk.

Summary: An increase in BMI z score from birth to 36 weeks gestation is associated with higher odds of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) among preterm infants. Despite similar caloric intake, infants with BPD have a higher weight-for-age but lower length-for-age, resulting in a higher BMI score compared to BPD-free infants.

Summary: Reference charts for body composition of infants aged 0-6 months and 3-24 months have been developed, based on global reference data. These charts will enhance the interpretation and understanding of body composition in infants during the first 24 months of life.

Summary: This article presents a method called 'Slope-Hunter' that corrects conditional bias in genetic associations using model-based clustering. The study found that this method eliminates bias and outperforms alternatives even in the presence of genetic correlation.

Summary: This study identified five fetal cranial growth trajectories associated with specific neurodevelopmental, behavioral, visual, and growth outcomes, predominantly focusing on the maturation of cognitive, language, and visual skills. Further research should explore the potential for preventive interventions during pregnancy to improve infant neurodevelopmental outcomes before the critical window of opportunity that precedes the divergence of growth at 20-25 weeks' gestation.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between fetal growth in preterm babies using the head circumference/chest circumference ratio and other anthropometric parameters. The results showed that the head circumference/chest circumference ratio at birth was significantly correlated with body weight, body length, and head circumference z-scores at birth, as well as body mass index z-score at 6 years.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) on psychomotor development, anthropometric indexes, and safety in children with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). The results showed that rhGH treatment improved height, body weight, BMI, and mental development, while attenuating the deterioration of motor function.

Summary: An epigenome-wide association study on monozygotic twins revealed that physical activity can promote systemic epigenetic alterations and impact metabolic risk factors. The study analyzed differences in body mass index, physical activity levels, and neighborhood walkability between twin pairs and identified DNA methylation alterations associated with reduced metabolic parameters. The study also identified genes related to vigorous physical activity, metabolic risk factors, and sex.

Summary: Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) pose a significant public health challenge in Indonesia, and their risk factors are associated with COVID-19 severity and mortality. This study investigated the NCD risk profile among university employees in Indonesia and its relationship with contracting COVID-19. The findings revealed a high prevalence of NCD risk factors among university administrative employees, which increased their susceptibility to COVID-19. The study highlights the urgent need for a behavioral intervention program to manage NCD risk factors at the university level.

Summary: This study investigates the geographic disparities of COVID-19 risk and the associations between COVID-19 risk and socioeconomic, demographic, movement, and chronic disease factors in the Greater St. Louis Area of Missouri. The results show that there are geographic disparities in COVID-19 risk, and these risks are associated with sociodemographic factors, population movements, and obesity hospitalization risks. The findings highlight the importance of considering these factors in controlling and preventing COVID-19.
