Summary: The sol-gel technique was used to synthesize Er2-xCoxO3 mixed oxides with varying Co concentrations. Rietveld analyses showed single phase nanoparticles up to x = 0.1, with Co3O4 phase appearing for x >= 0.2. The magnetic analysis revealed super-paramagnetism as the reason for S-shaped hysteresis loops and non-zero magnetic moments, with both Mr and Ms increasing with higher Co+2 concentrations.

Summary: This work describes a homometallic spin-1/2 tetrabromocuprate adopting a bilayer structure. Magnetic-susceptibility measurements show a broad maximum centred near 70 K, indicating strong antiferromagnetic coupling between neighbouring copper atoms in different layers of the bilayer. Weak intralayer ferromagnetic interactions between copper cations in neighbouring dimers also exist. First-principles calculations confirm these observations and suggest the presence of a spin ladder within the bilayer with antiferromagnetic rung and weaker ferromagnetic rail couplings.

Summary: The CoInOPO4 compound was synthesized using the sol-gel method and its crystal structure was determined using powder X-ray diffraction data and Rietveld method. The structure of this phosphate consists of a three-dimensional network built up from (Co(2)/In(2))O6 octahedra, (In(1)/Co(1))O5 square pyramid, and PO4 tetrahedra. Infrared and Raman spectroscopy were used to analyze the structural information, and magnetic investigation revealed that the dominating interactions in this phosphate are antiferromagnetic.

Summary: Fe-10Pb (wt%) nanocrystalline powders were synthesized by mechanical alloying processes with a high-energy ball mill. The evolution of phase and magnetic properties were investigated as a function of milling time. Results showed that lattice parameter decreased and grain size reduced with increasing milling time, influencing the magnetic properties of the alloy nanoparticles.

Summary: X-ray powder diffraction using synchrotron light source reveals significant modifications to both morphology and strain state in Palladium nanocubes after oxidation. Short-range strain is higher in oxidized nanoparticles due to surface softening from oxygen adsorption, while long-range strain decreases as a result of increased truncation of the nanocubes. Different surface disorder on various crystallographic facets leads to opposing trends for oxygen activation on different exposed surfaces of the truncated nanoparticles.

Summary: The study found that the chemical reduction of octaphenyltetrabenzocyclooctatetraene framework can readily produce the corresponding tetra-anion instead of the expected aromatic dianion. X-ray crystallography shows that the highly contorted tetra-anion is stabilized by the coordination of two internally bound Li+ ions, while two external cations are solvent separated. Density-functional theory calculations suggest that the formation of the highly charged tetra-reduced carbanion is stabilized through Li+ coordination under the applied experimental conditions.

Summary: Solid solutions based on Sr2MnSbO6 and SrLaMnSbO6 with mixed oxidation states of Mn were prepared by solid state synthesis. The structural and magnetic properties of these solid solutions were studied, revealing that the dominant exchange interactions between Mn3+ and Mn2+ cations in Sr2-xLaxMnSbO6 are of antiferromagnetic nature.

Summary: The existence of a boron-filled fl-Mn-type compound has been observed for the first time in the Pd-Cu-B system. The crystal structure, homogeneity field, and phase equilibria of this compound have been studied using various analytical methods. It has been found that the B-filled fl-Mn-type structure exists within a certain compositional range with specific boron population. The metallic behavior and electronic structure of this compound have also been examined.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of Ti substitution on the thermal expansion behavior of Zr2-xTixS0.9P2O12-δ, finding that Ti has two effects: reduction of the lattice constant and inhibition of the phase transition. Ti showed a solid solubility limit of approximately x=0.7 in Zr2-xTixS0.9P2O12-δ, leading to two types of compounds with different thermal expansion behaviors.

Summary: The equiatomic quaternary Heusler alloy FeRuCrSi was synthesized and its atomic ordering, magnetic properties and electronic structure were investigated. The alloy exhibited a single phase with a lattice constant of 5.811 Å at room temperature. A disorder related to the random occupation of Fe and Ru at specific sites was identified. The disorder affected the magnetic properties and narrowed the gaps in the electronic structure.

Summary: This study discovered that 1,2,6-thiadiazines can be converted into 1,2,5-thiadiazole 1-oxides using visible light and oxygen under ambient conditions, which was previously difficult to achieve. Experimental and theoretical studies revealed that 1,2,6-thiadiazines act as triplet photosensitizers and undergo a selective cycloaddition reaction to form an endoperoxide.
