Summary: This study describes the design, synthesis, and isolation of a Kekule hydrocarbon with a triplet ground state. The triplet ground state was confirmed through ESR experiments, and the structure and fundamental physical properties were also revealed. The key aspect of the molecular design is the decrease in bonding interaction in the singlet state through aromatic stabilization of benzene rings and the increase of exchange interaction of unpaired electrons, which is favorable for the triplet state. These findings contribute to the development of hydrocarbon-based organic magnetic materials.

Summary: This work presents the cascade cyclization reaction between 1-allenyl-2-alkynylbenzenes and nitrosoarenes. Under N2, N,O-functionalized indanefused isoxazolidines 3 were selectively obtained from the reaction of these two components alone. DFT calculations confirm the involvement of unprecedented nitrone/alkyne cycloadditions followed by diradical rearrangement in this reaction sequence.

Summary: A kinetically-stabilized nitrogen-doped triangulene cation derivative with a triplet ground state that exhibits near-infrared emission has been synthesized and isolated. The triplet ground state with a large singlet-triplet energy gap was experimentally confirmed by magnetic measurements. The nitrogen-doped triangulene cation derivative is highly stable even in solution under air and exhibits near-infrared absorption and emission due to the broken alternancy symmetry of triangulene.

Summary: This study investigates a novel oxidative cleavage method for alkenes, which involves the use of photosensitized nitroarenes to produce [3+2] cycloaddition products and convert them into carbonyl compounds. The method offers high site-selectivity and mild oxidation conditions, making it suitable for the synthesis of complex molecular structures.

Summary: This study developed a catalytic recipe of copper halides to address the issues of side reactions and selectivity in the 1,5-H transfer of alka-1,4-diyn-3-yl amines, providing various allenynes with excellent enantioselectivities. The method was successfully applied to the first highly enantioselective total synthesis of the natural product scorodonin. Mechanistic studies and DFT calculations elucidated the regioselectivity for the observed 1,5-H transfer.

Summary: Typical transition metal-catalyzed oxycyclization reactions can lead to the formation of different products via distinct mechanisms, such as the 5-endo cyclization to form dihydrofurans or the 3-exo-cyclization/sulfonylation cascade to generate trisubstituted epoxides. The current stoichiometry control of regioselectivity may offer unique opportunities for chemical transformations.

Summary: The mild intramolecular tetradehydro-Diels-Alder (TDDA) reaction of aryldiyne compounds with linear naphthalenes is presented, exhibiting good functional group tolerance. The reaction is easy to operate and suitable for multigram-scale synthesis. From the preliminary work, it was found that the mild conditions may be the key for obtaining completely linear products in the reactions.

Summary: A gold-catalyzed cascade cyclization of naphthalene-tethered allenynes leads to strained fused phenanthrene derivatives. The reaction involves the nucleophilic reaction of an alkyne with an activated allene to generate a vinyl cation intermediate, followed by arylation with a tethered naphthalene ring to form the 4H-cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene (CPP) scaffold. The gold-catalyzed reaction of aryl-substituted substrates on the alkyne terminus also produces dibenzofluorene derivatives alongside the CPP derivatives, depending on the reaction conditions.

Summary: Gold-catalyzed reactions of cycloheptatrienes with nitrosoarenes efficiently yield nitrone derivatives, and the development of aerobic oxidations and annulations using CuCl and nitrosoarenes as co-catalysts have been achieved. The study also demonstrates a novel nitroso-activated rearrangement and the successful synthesis of 5-alkoxyisoxazolidines in [2 + 2 + 1]-annulations utilizing 1,4-cyclohexadienes as hydrogen donors.

Summary: A variety of 4-phosphinylpyrrolidin-3-ones were synthesized via a [3+2] cycloaddition reaction between aryl aldonitrones and phosphinylallenes. The products were obtained as unique 4,5-trans diastereomers in yields ranging from 47% to 80% for 23 examples. Chiral racemic allenes exhibited a moderate 2:1 to 4:1 2,5-diastereoselectivity. Under the reaction conditions, the cycloadducts undergo a rearrangement to selectively afford the corresponding pyrrolidin-3-ones. DFT calculations provided insights into the mechanism involving the homolytic cleavage of the N-O bond of the cycloadduct.
