Summary: In this study, the bending strength of YCOB samples with different orientations was measured using a three-point bending test. The results showed that Y-cut and Z-cut samples had higher bending strengths in the XZ principal plane, indicating obvious anisotropy. The contribution of cleavage planes (201) and (101) to fracture was discussed in detail based on the theorem of energy minimum.

Summary: TaRh2B2 and NbRh2B2 compounds with chiral structure and noncentrosymmetric superconductivity are investigated using an ab-initio density functional theory approach. The study explores their structural, mechanical, electronic, thermophysical, and superconducting properties. The compounds are found to be mechanically stable, ductile, and machinable. They exhibit anisotropic nature and have potential as prominent reflectors. The investigation of density of states reveals the significance of d orbital contribution near the Fermi level. The estimated electron-phonon coupling constants agree well with previous reports.

Summary: CdTe is investigated for its potential in efficient and stable solar cell production. The electronic, optical, and thermoelectric properties of different structural phases of CdTe were studied using density functional theory. The band structures varied among the phases, with some exhibiting direct band gaps and others showing indirect band gaps. The hybridization of Te-p and Cd-s bands was observed in the valence region. The dielectric function showed a slight decrease in the real component and an increase in the imaginary component with increasing photonic energy. The (5-phase exhibited higher reflectivity and showed potential for protecting against high energy radiations. The computed band gaps were inversely related to the refractive index, and the thermoelectric parameters indicated the potential use of these phases in thermoelectric devices.

Summary: The influence of Eu concentration on the structural, physical, and optical properties of NaCl:XEu crystals is studied. It is confirmed that Eu ions exist in the NaCl crystal matrix, and the Eu doped crystals belong to the hard material category. The optical absorption spectra reveal new peaks upon doping with Eu ions, while the photoluminescence spectra show increased emission intensity with increasing Eu concentration. The thermoluminescence curves exhibit stronger peak intensities for the Eu doped NaCl crystals.

Summary: This study investigates the growth pattern of Bi2ZnOB2O6 crystals using high-temperature Raman spectroscopy. By exploring the starting solution structure near the crystal-solution interface, it is observed that the solution primarily consists of ZO4 and BO3 units which form longer chains. Additionally, the formation of Bi-O bonds leads to a loose embryonic structure of the Bi2ZnOB2O6 crystal near the crystal-solution interface.

Summary: A new polyphosphate with complex chain structure and diverse metal cationic coordination environment has been synthesized. This compound exhibits a deep-UV cutoff edge and significantly enlarged birefringence, reaching a new height among reported mixed alkali metal and alkaline earth metal phosphate. The enlarged birefringence mainly originates from the arrangement of chains in an inverted zigzag.

Summary: In this paper, we demonstrated for the first time an ultra-broadband non-collinear optical parametric amplifier with YCOB for petawatt-scale compressed pulse generation at 800 nm. The experiment achieved an amplified signal energy of approximately 40 J with a pump-to-signal conversion efficiency of 42.3% and a gain bandwidth of 87 nm, supporting a compressed pulse duration of 22.3 fs. The results confirmed the great potential for the utilization of YCOB in the future.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of hydrothermal synthesis conditions on nanocrystalline particles with a phase of variable composition. The BFWO phase structural parameters were found to be affected by the chemical composition, while the average crystallite size and aggregate size changed with different hydrothermal synthesis conditions. Furthermore, the Eg value was shown to decrease with an enrichment of BFWO composition in Bi and Fe, and a decrease in the volume fraction of crystallites in the surface layer of aggregates.
