Summary: Ru(ii) complexes have shown potential as antitumor agents due to their low toxicity and high affinity to DNA, with [Ru(dmbpy)(2)(LOFLX)]center dot 2ClO(4) (2) exhibiting higher binding affinity and the ability to induce cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase through DNA damage in A549 cells.

Summary: This study reports the cryo-electron microscopy structure of human VIP2R bound to its endogenous ligand PACAP27 and the stimulatory G protein, revealing a unique interaction mode between PACAP27 and the receptor stabilized by the N-terminal alpha-helix of VIP2R. Truncation or extension of VIP2R significantly decreases VIP2R-mediated cAMP accumulation.

Summary: Protein folding and dynamics are influenced by thermal and viscosity-mediated effects, with internal friction playing a crucial role. The study demonstrates that sequence-specific backbone dihedral barriers control local internal friction in proteins, with different amino acid sequences affecting the level of internal friction.

Summary: In order to achieve nucleic acid-targeting photodynamic therapy, a photosensitizer should be attached at the optimal guanine photooxidation position on a complementary oligonucleotide. Photooxidation experiments were conducted on 22 DNA duplexes with a biphenyl photosensitizer attached at a midchain thymine and a single guanine reactant in the other strand. The best photooxidation efficiency was observed at intervals of 9, 10, and 21 base pairs, which coincide with the pitch of a DNA duplex. The study provides insights for the development of efficient and selective photosensitizers for nucleic acid-targeting photodynamic therapy and demonstrates the diffusion of particles along cylindrical surfaces at the molecular level.

Summary: COVID-19 may induce type-II diabetes by affecting the equilibrium between amylin monomers and fibrils. Molecular dynamics simulations were used to investigate the interaction between SARS-COV-2 protein fragments and amylin structures. The results were compared with previous studies on different proteins.

Summary: Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR) is characterized by a lack of ganglion cells in the digestive tract, and its development may be influenced by the interaction of multiple genes and microenvironmental factors. Research suggests that substances in the intestinal microenvironment play a crucial role in the disease progression. Recent studies have shown that endogenous peptides derived from AHNAK protein may be involved in the pathogenesis of HSCR.

Summary: The research indicates that cationic porphyrin has different effects on different types of DNA, with distinct light-induced singlet oxygen generation and subsequent DNA damage observed in DNA-TMPyP4 assemblies. The DNA damage commonly stems from guanine-specific oxidation in both mt9438-TMPyP4 and TBA-TMPyP4 assemblies.

Summary: Chemical synthesis of hydrophobic proteins is challenging, but can be achieved by integrating peptide solubilizing strategies with peptide ligation. This study presents a tunable backbone modification strategy that allows for the introduction of a solubilizing tag for peptide purification and ligation processes. The effectiveness of this strategy was demonstrated by the chemical synthesis of interleukin-2.

Summary: Due to the strong electron-donating ability of ylide substituents, diylidyltetrylenes are usually highly nucleophilic species with strong donor capacities. However, we demonstrate that their electronic properties can be effectively tuned through variation of the substituent in the ylide backbone. Cyano groups are particularly capable in lowering the LUMO energy of diylidyl germylenes and turning them into electrophilic compounds. Experimental studies confirmed this.

Summary: Podocytes play a crucial role in regulating the localization of Nephrin and Neph1, with MAGI-2 being essential for maintaining the integrity of the glomerular filtration barrier. Downregulation of MAGI-2 leads to reduced expression of slit-diaphragm backbone proteins, while its overexpression preserves their localization at intercellular junctions. The PDZ domains of MAGI-2 play a significant role in interacting with slit diaphragm backbone proteins in podocytes, suggesting a mechanism by which these proteins are maintained in their proper locations.

Summary: Photochemical [2+2]-cycloadditions of coumarin-like monomers are widely studied for their photo-formation and photo-cleavage reactions. The study compares twelve coumarin-type cyclobutane dimers and identifies two with unexpectedly high quantum yield for cyclobutane cleavage. Electron donating substitutions, such as methoxy, decrease oxidation potential and make dimers sensitive towards oxidative dimer splitting. Among the investigated dimers, the methylated coumarin dimer is identified as the most promising for applications.
