Summary: In this study, a stretchable, dual thermo-responsive and strain-responsive ionogel was synthesized using a one-step photopolymerization method. The resulting ionogel exhibited high stretchability, high ionic conductivity, and good temperature tolerance. It also showed a tunable phase-transition temperature and reversible color/transparency switching. The ionogel-based temperature monitors, smart windows, and strain sensors demonstrated excellent designability, programmability, temperature modulation ability, and thermal responsiveness. This approach holds great promise for the development of multifunctional stimuli-responsive materials.

Summary: Liver cancer is difficult to treat due to its high recurrence and metastasis rates. Polymeric nanogels have emerged as a promising treatment method. In this study, pH- and thermo-dependent polymeric core-shell microgels encapsulating doxorubicin (DOX) were prepared. The microgels showed well-defined core-shell nanostructures and demonstrated nontoxicity and biocompatibility towards normal and cancer cell lines. The drug release profiles indicated pH- and thermo-responsive behavior. The prepared microgels could potentially serve as novel drug carriers for delivering DOX to liver cancer cells.

Summary: This study demonstrates a dual-stimuli cooperative responsive hydrogel microactuator by asymmetric fabrication via femtosecond laser direct writing. The dual response of the hydrogel microstructure is achieved through the use of responsive hydrogel with functional monomer 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate. Raman spectra of the hydrogel microstructures suggest that the pH and temperature response of the hydrogel is generated by the changes in tertiary amine groups and hydrogen bonds, respectively. The asymmetric hydrogel microstructures show opposite bending direction when being heated to high temperature or exposed to acid solution, and can independently accomplish the grasp of polystyrene microspheres.

Summary: The dual-responsive fluorescent probe 3Q-2 can reveal dynamic changes in NAD(P)H and mitochondrial viscosity during ferroptosis, a newly discovered form of cell death. This probe displays two separate spectra in response to NAD(P)H and mitochondrial viscosity with high sensitivity and selectivity. Cancer cells exhibit distinct levels of NAD(P)H and mitochondrial viscosity during ferroptosis induced by specific inhibitors. This robust method of detecting NAD(P)H and mitochondrial viscosity simultaneously may find applications in various physiological and pathological scenarios.

Summary: This study presents the design and synthesis of sulfated disaccharide inhibitors based on IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S), which showed potent inhibition of Sulf-2. The results suggest that IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S) is the shortest fragment size required for effective inhibition of Sulfs, and a trisulfated disaccharide is identified as the minimal fragment size of heparan sulfate for effective endosulfatase inhibition.

Summary: The self-adaptability of galvanostatic electrolysis was found to be helpful in a multistage chemo- and diastereoselective electrochemically promoted cyclodimerization of chalcones. Through a series of reductive events, densely functionalized cyclopentanes with five contiguous stereocenters were obtained (25 examples, yields up to 95%, dr values up to >20:1). Further experimental and electrochemical investigations indicated the crucial role of dynamic kinetic resolution of the aldol intermediate in the reaction mechanism.

Summary: In this study, the synthesis of functionalized benzo[a]phenazines and indazolo[2,3-a]quinolines was achieved through Rh(III)-catalyzed oxidative annulation of 2-arylquinoxalines and 2-aryl-2H-indazoles with allyl alcohols. The method showed a wide substrate scope, excellent functional group tolerance, good to high yields of annulated products, and the capability for scaled-up synthesis. A tentative mechanism of the annulation reaction was proposed based on a preliminary mechanistic investigation.
