Summary: The study found significant differences in macronutrient composition and microbial community of food samples across seasons in a natural environment. However, the stress resistance and life-history traits of fruit flies were unaffected by these seasonal variations, suggesting that the interactions between microbes and nutrients in a varied nutritional environment play a crucial role in offsetting the negative effects of unfavorable macronutrient compositions.

Summary: A study on the TPS gene family in grapevine identified three new genes and found that two potential biosynthetic TPS isoforms preferentially expressed in leaf and fruit. Expression of TPS genes in grapevine was affected by sucrose treatment and osmotic stress, with different genes showing co-expression patterns in different conditions. These findings pave the way for understanding the role of TPS isoforms in grapevine responses to environmental stress.

Summary: A Western diet high in saturated fat, sugar, and salt has detrimental effects on Drosophila simulans, affecting lifespan, activity, sleep, reproduction, and mitochondrial function, with females being more affected than males. Regular aerobic exercise can counteract these negative effects and mitigate changes in triglyceride levels and mitochondrial dysfunction caused by the diet. Additionally, pre-exposure to the diet increased fruit flies' preference for it, which was prevented by flight exercise. This study establishes Drosophila simulans as a novel model for studying the interaction between diet and exercise, mirroring aspects of obesity and eating disorders in humans.

Summary: This study demonstrates that foliar fertilization can increase the total phenolic content in peas, but has no effect on the concentration of trace elements. The optimal combination of foliar fertilization is 100 g Se/ha and 750 g Zn/ha. This study highlights the potential of foliar biofortification for producing pea/pea products rich in bioactive plant metabolites beneficial for human health.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of long-term restricted feeding schedules on behavior, serotonergic responses, and neuro-endocrine functions in female Wistar rats. The results showed that chronic food restriction led to decreased body weight and increased hyperactivity in both time-restricted feeding and diet restricted animals. Levels of tryptophan (Trp), serotonin (5-HT), and its metabolite 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIM) were decreased in the circulation and striatum. The expression of serotonin-1A (5-HT1A) auto-receptor in the raphe nuclei was also decreased. These changes were more significant in the diet restricted animals. Hypoleptinemia and increased corticosterone levels were observed in both models, with greater effects in the diet restricted animals. The study highlights the importance of dietary deficiency of Trp in modulating 5-HT metabolism and its impact on circulating leptin and corticosterone.
