Summary: In this study, a well-defined form of the THF adduct of CrCl3 was disclosed, which enabled structure determination by X-ray crystallography. The catalyst prepared using this material as a starting material exhibited reliably high activity. Single crystals of complex compounds were successfully obtained using this well-defined Cr source, allowing structure determination by X-ray crystallography, which was unsuccessful when impure CrCl3(thf)(3) was used.

Summary: This study investigates the sources of nutrients during ocean anoxic events, proposing that massive eruptions of Large Igneous Provinces triggered the events. Results suggest that global warming associated with volcanic CO2 loading into the atmosphere increased continental weathering rates during ocean anoxic events, enhancing nutrient supplies to the oceans.

Summary: This study presents a double oxidizing process for producing water-soluble coal oxide and its mixture for low-cost Sr detection. The coal oxide shows a tunable optical property under different pH conditions and can interact with Sr metal cations, resulting in a turn-ON photoluminescence response. The mixture of coal oxide and maghemite allows for easy recovery of adsorbed Sr using a magnet.

Summary: We designed and synthesized strontium (II)-8-hydroxyquinolinate (Sr(HQ)2) and used it to modify a fluorocarbon (FC) multifunctional coating (Sr(HQ)2-FC) in order to enhance self-healing and physical barrier performances. The Sr(HQ)2-FC coating showed improved physical barrier performance by prolonging the diffusion pathway of corrosive media and exhibited a 3 times higher coating resistance compared to the pure FC coating. The introduced Sr(HQ)2 also provided efficient self-healing function by redepositing a stable and dense protective film at the defected region of the coating, resulting in a lower corrosion rate compared to the pure FC coating.

Summary: Crystal growth from anhydrous HF solutions of M2+ (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) and [AuF6]- (molar ratio 1:2) produced various compounds with different crystal structures. The crystal structures exhibit diversity, including layered structure and three-dimensional networks. It is found that the previously reported compounds M(AuF6)(2) do not correspond to the reported chemical formula. Additionally, crystal structures of some byproducts were observed.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the effects of strontium nitrate (Sr(NO3)(2)) aqueous solution on hardened concrete composite as a surface hardening method. The results showed that Sr(NO3)(2) treatment can increase density, decrease void content, improve water sorptivity, and enhance surface abrasion resistance of the concrete mixture. Various analytical techniques were utilized to explore the microstructures and chemical characteristics of the treated concrete, revealing mechanisms of densification and strengthening.

Summary: The study modified the structure of zirconium-containing bioactive glass by incorporating strontium, resulting in the formation of hydroxyapatite in simulated body fluid. In vitro experiments demonstrated that the synthesized bioactive glasses significantly promoted proliferation and viability of osteoblast-like cells, and showed good antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. These findings were confirmed by cell staining techniques, showing increased live cells and decreased dead cells after co-culturing with the bioactive glasses.

Summary: The fluoro-modification at the 2'-position of L-cytidine in L-nucleic acids does not disrupt their thermostabilities and maintains structural integrity, allowing it to form a Watson-Crick base pair with L-guanosine. This provides a useful biochemical strategy for investigating L-nucleic acids in advanced molecular therapy.

Summary: Two mononuclear ruthenium(II) complexes with dianionic {N-4} ligands and axial pyridines were prepared and characterized structurally. The redox properties of the complexes were investigated electrochemically, and their potential as water oxidation catalysts was tested using cerium ammonium nitrate at pH 1.0. Complex 1 underwent degradation, likely due to ligand oxidation, while complex 2 exhibited higher stability and efficiency in water oxidation reactions.

Summary: A new NMR method utilizing Li-7 residual quadrupolar couplings (RQCs) in a stretched polystyrene (PS) gel is proposed for the structure determination of lithium compounds under solution-like conditions, by comparing the experimental RQCs with those predicted from crystal or DFT-derived model structures. This method was successfully applied to five lithium model complexes, revealing the monomeric structures of four complexes with Li coordinated fourfold by two additional THF molecules, and the limited space for an additional THF molecule in one complex due to bulky tBu groups.

Summary: Amaranthus L. leaves are rich in secondary plant metabolites, with high amounts of hydroxycinnamic glucaric and-isocitric acids. They also exhibit antioxidant activity similar to 5-caffeoylquinic acid. The antioxidant activity is influenced more by the phenolic and ascorbic acid concentrations rather than the species of Amaranthus L. Household cooking may reduce antioxidant activity, while leaching into cooking water has negligible effects. Baking Amaranthus L. into a wheat-dough-matrix may result in lower phenolic concentrations due to phenol-protein binding and thermal degradation.

Summary: This study presents the design and synthesis of sulfated disaccharide inhibitors based on IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S), which showed potent inhibition of Sulf-2. The results suggest that IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S) is the shortest fragment size required for effective inhibition of Sulfs, and a trisulfated disaccharide is identified as the minimal fragment size of heparan sulfate for effective endosulfatase inhibition.

Summary: The self-adaptability of galvanostatic electrolysis was found to be helpful in a multistage chemo- and diastereoselective electrochemically promoted cyclodimerization of chalcones. Through a series of reductive events, densely functionalized cyclopentanes with five contiguous stereocenters were obtained (25 examples, yields up to 95%, dr values up to >20:1). Further experimental and electrochemical investigations indicated the crucial role of dynamic kinetic resolution of the aldol intermediate in the reaction mechanism.

Summary: In this study, the synthesis of functionalized benzo[a]phenazines and indazolo[2,3-a]quinolines was achieved through Rh(III)-catalyzed oxidative annulation of 2-arylquinoxalines and 2-aryl-2H-indazoles with allyl alcohols. The method showed a wide substrate scope, excellent functional group tolerance, good to high yields of annulated products, and the capability for scaled-up synthesis. A tentative mechanism of the annulation reaction was proposed based on a preliminary mechanistic investigation.
