Decarbonylative Transfer Hydrochlorination of Alkenes and Alkynes Based on a B(C6F5)3-Initiated Grob Fragmentation

Summary: Readily available cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylcarbonyl chloride derivatives were used as stable HCl surrogates for transfer hydrochlorination of alkenes and alkynes. B(C6F5)(3) facilitated the stepwise fragmentation of acyl chlorides, allowing the addition of HCl across C-C double and triple bonds with Markovnikov selectivity at room temperature.

Facile Synthesis of Palladium-Based Nanocrystals with Different Crystal Phases and a Comparison of Their Catalytic Properties

Summary: This study reports a method for synthesizing Ru@Pd core-shell nanocrystals with polymorphism and reveals that the polymorphism depends on the thickness of the Pd shell. The injection rate serves as an experimental knob for controlling the phase, with Ru@Pd-hcp nanocrystals outperforming Ru@Pd-fcc in catalytic reactions. Density functional theory calculations are used to explain the enhancement in performance.

Differential Dihydrofunctionalization: A Dual Catalytic Three-Component Coupling of Alkynes, Alkenyl Bromides, and Pinacolborane

Summary: A new method for the differential dihydrofunctionalization of terminal alkynes has been developed, enabling the synthesis of allylic boronate esters through a reductive three-component coupling reaction. This transformation, promoted by a copper/palladium catalyst system, hydrofunctionalizes both pi-bonds of the alkyne. The method is compatible with a wide range of functional groups.

Hydrofunctionalization of Propadiene - New Life for a Previously Unwanted Product

Summary: A highly versatile palladium-catalyzed allylation reaction using various pronucleophiles has been reported. Through the use of propadiene in toluene, this reaction provides an efficient and waste-free method to obtain allylated nucleophiles with unlimited potential for further functionalization. The Pd/BINAP system is not only capable of adding N-, O-, and S-pronucleophiles, but also C-pronucleophiles to allene. The plausible mechanism is supported by deuterium labeling experiments.

The Enantioselective Intermolecular Saegusa Allylation

Summary: A simple procedure for intermolecular enantioselective palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative allylation of beta-ketoacids is described. The method uses allyl carbonates as coupling substrates and allows direct access to alpha-allylated ketones with newly formed quaternary stereocenters. Experimental results suggest the transformation proceeds via an inner-sphere mechanism rather than the traditional outer-sphere process, and the reaction demonstrates potential usefulness in the enantioselective synthesis of (+)-adalinine.

Triaminocyclopentadienyl Ruthenium Complexes - New Catalysts for Cascade Conversions of Propargyl Alcohols

Summary: Various triaminocyclopentadienyl ruthenium complexes were synthesized from Ru-3(CO)(12) and tested for their ability to catalyze cascade conversions of propargyl alcohols. The substrate scope of catalytic cycloadditions was extended to terpenoid-derived propargyl alcohols containing an internal alkyne moiety, resulting in a wide range of cyclic terpenoid and phloroglucinol adducts obtained by complementary application of both types of catalysts.

Manganese-Catalyzed Anti-Markovnikov Hydroarylation of Enamides: Modular Synthesis of Arylethylamines

Summary: In this report, a practical protocol for the synthesis of arylethylamine functionality common in pharmaceutical chemicals has been developed. The protocol proceeds by Mn-catalyzed anti-Markovnikov hydroarylation of electron-rich enamides under mild conditions without the use of ligands. Both terminal and internal enamides can be regioselectively hydroarylated with various aryl boronic acids in 15 min. The reaction also allows for the hydroalkenylation of enamides with alkenyl boronic acids in air atmosphere, providing an elegant route to synthetically useful beta-alkenylated amines in satisfactory yields.

Shape Selectivity in the Gold-Catalyzed Hydration of Alkynes Using a Cavity-Shaped Phosphine

Summary: A cavity-shaped gold(I) complex derived from a bulky tri-(ortho-biaryl)-phosphine ligand exhibits preferred selectivity towards terminal functionalities in the gold(I)-catalysed hydration of alkynes under mild heating, thanks to a well-defined pocket as the catalytic active site. This selectivity differs from other gold(I) complexes with bulky phosphine ligands, which show reduced selectivity or similar behavior towards both internal and terminal alkynes. We also explore the potential of gold(III) derivatives for the same catalytic process.

An unprecedented palladium-arsenic catalytic cycle for nitriles hydration

Summary: This article describes an unprecedented palladium/arsenic-based catalytic cycle for the hydration of nitriles to amides, which takes place under exceptionally mild conditions of neutral pH and moderate temperature (60°C). The versatility of this new catalytic cycle was tested on various nitriles, ranging from aliphatic to aromatic. The effect of ring substitution with electron withdrawing and electron donating groups, as well as potentially interferent functional groups such as hydroxy or pyridinic nitrogen, was investigated. Furthermore, a pilot study on the potential scalability of this approach for industrial production is presented, demonstrating its potential and rapid scale-up capability.

Palladium-Catalyzed Hydroaminocarbonylation of Olefins with Aliphatic Amines without Additives

Summary: Palladium-catalyzed hydroaminocarbonylation reactions of olefins using aliphatic amines were successfully performed under carbon monoxide atmosphere. The targeted amides were synthesized in moderate to good isolated yields without the need for acidic additives. The effect of chiral diphosphines on product distribution, including chemo-, regio-, and enantioselectivities, was also investigated.

This method features inherent atom- and step-economy, high functional group tolerance, mild conditions, broad structural diversity, and excellent enantioselectivities.

The Regioselective Arylation of 1,3-Benzodioxoles
