Summary: This study investigated the use of an OEF map generated via magnetic resonance quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) to identify the ischemic penumbra in patients with acute ischemic stroke. The study found that tissue volumes with increased OEF values could predict ischemic penumbra volumes and were correlated with changes in stroke severity.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how a full opening of the stroke network in Campania improves stroke management and patient survival. By evaluating and assessing the treatment effects on 68 patients with acute ischemic stroke, it was found that there was a relatively high proportion of mechanical thrombectomy procedures in the hub center. The discussion highlights the importance of establishing a multi-disciplinary care system.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the spatiotemporal evolution of oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) in ischemic stroke using a new cluster analysis method. The results showed a declining trend of OEF in the infarcted region from the acute to chronic phase. Some patients exhibited reversal of the initial diffusion lesion (IDL) and increased relative oxygen extraction fraction (rOEF) in the reversal region (RR) in longitudinal MRI scans.

Summary: This study investigated the gut microbiota features associated with neurological deficits in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) after recanalization therapy and whether they predict the patients' functional outcomes. It was found that gut microbiota characteristics are correlated with recanalization therapy outcomes in patients with AIS, and may serve as a promising biomarker associated with early neurological deficits and predicting therapy outcomes.

Summary: The final echo time was found to have no significant effect on OEF, while voxel size had a significant impact, with larger voxel sizes underestimating OEF. The last step of estimating vein OEF values from susceptibility images had the largest dependency on voxel size.

Summary: This study suggests that penumbra salvage volume may play a key role in mediating the effect of thrombectomy on functional outcome in EVT patients. Complete reperfusion was associated with higher PSV compared to partial or incomplete reperfusion, and a higher degree of recanalization was linked to increased PSV and improved functional outcome.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of intravenous thrombolytic therapy (IVT) on functional outcome and secondary injury volumes in patients with complete reperfusion after thrombectomy. The results showed that bridging IVT was associated with a lower proportion of functional independence and a higher rate of symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH). Multivariable analysis confirmed the independent association of bridging IVT with sICH and edema volume.

Summary: Diabetes and admission hyperglycemia are associated with poor clinical outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with recanalization therapies. They are independently correlated with a poor clinical outcome, mortality, and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage. However, successful recanalization is not associated with diabetes and hyperglycemia in patients who underwent mechanical thrombectomy.

Summary: A prediction model using clot volume and collateral status was developed to predict early recanalization after intravenous t-PA treatment in stroke patients with large-vessel occlusion. The model showed high performance and may aid in deciding recanalization treatment strategy for these patients.

Summary: This prospective study investigated the relationship between gut microbiota metabolites (TMAO and SCFAs) and the prognosis after recanalization therapy for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). It was found that TMAO levels were not associated with stroke severity and functional outcomes, while isovalerate levels (one of the SCFAs) were negatively correlated with NIHSS scores at admission and discharge. High isovalerate levels were independently associated with a decreased likelihood of severe disability. The study concluded that an elevated plasma isovalerate level was correlated with mild stroke severity and disability after recanalization therapy for AIS.

Summary: The clinical benefit of endovascular therapy in patients with large ischemic stroke is associated with the number of recanalization attempts. At least 2 recanalization attempts improve the likelihood of favorable functional outcomes, while more than 2 attempts should be carefully assessed.

Summary: This study utilized cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) to investigate the impact of plaque features on stent expansion after carotid artery stenting (CAS). The results showed that oval expansion was associated with maximum plaque thickness, while outward expansion was associated with the presence of a calcification barrier. Variables related to residual stenosis > 20% included maximum plaque thickness, calcification barrier, and pre-CAS stenotic degree.
