Summary: The N2pc event-related potential and its analogous component N2pcb were studied using two different algorithms, and both algorithms were found to properly estimate the components. Additionally, a new component called the posterior processing positivity (PPP) was discovered, which could be observed using a combination of features and showed that bilateral activity elicited by target-absent displays is an adequate baseline for its correct isolation.

Summary: Selective auditory attention can modulate the cortical representation of speech, but the influence of topic familiarity and volatile listening environments on this process is not well understood. It was found that comprehension was affected when facing unfamiliar topics, but the ability to track the target speech was still intact. However, in volatile listening environments where auditory scenes constantly changed, the neural correlates of attended speech were degraded.

Summary: This study investigated how categorical and perceptual target-distractor similarity interactively affect visual search. The results showed that categorical similarity interacted with perceptual similarity, with the strongest effect observed for perceptually similar target-distractor pairs. The EEG results revealed that perceptual similarity influenced the early part of the N2pc, while categorical similarity influenced the later part. These findings provide evidence for hierarchical processing in visual search.

Summary: This study investigated the role of anticipatory alpha oscillations, subsequent target-evoked N2pc component, and their relationship in attention problems in children with ADHD. The results showed that children with ADHD had difficulties in sustaining hemispheric alpha lateralization during the late stage of the cued period. The aberrant temporal relationship between cue alpha and target N2pc was related to symptom severity and behavioral performance in children with ADHD.
